Well today tested fuel line with vacuum hose connected into jar. Dribble dribble, removed fuel that you could blow through ok but with it removed petroleum flows easily. Diasected filter with hammer and low and behold I think the filter element was made by The Wet Soggy Cardboard & Paper Co. Inc. Runs fine now needs fine tuning carb and headstock adjustment on bearings and suss out why one side indicators flash faster than others but not on 4ways never worked with led. Oh and a horn needed.

Signals most likely have different current draws from side to side = different bulbs, leds, (whatever). It looks new enough to not rely on an evil frame ground for lighting, but a corroded ground connection could do the same thing. But heck Milly, you knew all that.

Assault now up running did about 2 miles but cut out couple times, will check fuel feed and if ok strip carb after sons tried them both and see whichever one he wants . Personally I like the riding position of the lexmoto assault but he maybe just fine with the KSR.

The assault has a better spares, and dealer network. Good choice. My daughter looked at one of those new a couple of years ago. Then changed her mind about getting a motorcycle. She loved the styling.

Change fuel tap before removing carb. Old one dribbling petrol in off position and in on and reserve position can hardly blow air through. Removed sediment trap and paper filter was blocked. I had this happen before recently on cheap paper element filters and FrankenMech mentioned Kohler filters as being good which I have used to date with no problems. Bit harder to find and cost more but saves all the grief with the cheap ones. I'm wondering if it's ethanol that's cause the breakdown /blockage off them as not much muck in them considering. Bike running nice now and no carb to strip will road test tomorrow.

The ethanol draws water. The water saturates the paper filter which promotes microbial growth that rots the element and/or coats it with slime. The wet paper does not flow fuel well. The microbial growth also produces acids which corrode and eat metal parts. I had an entire electric fuel pump 'disappear' in ethanol fuel. The plastic Koehler filters hold up better but I hear there are bacteria developing a 'taste' for plastic so someday even the plastic filters may rot away. Shades of "Mutant 59 the Plastic Eater"
Life finds ways of consuming anything available for food.
A virus that eats the rubber tire/tyre dust alongside roads was identified many years ago.
Ethanol gasoline mixtures and vapors cause rubber tubing and parts to swell that breaks the rubber into tiny cubes like table salt which break away and clog orifices etc. A person can actually see the tiny cracks and small blocks the rubber parts develop with your eyes. The cracks are hell on vacuum lines. The cracks form from the inside out and are not visible from the outside until the tubing breaks or is removed from a fitting.

One of the things they mentioned about ethanol, when I looked into it. Was it's ability to loosen old deposits in fuel tanks. That was one reason they said not to use it on classic vehicles.
