I came across this forum and I am looking for someone to help me decipher what scooter I bought. I wanted a new project to work on so I bought a (basically free) taotao scooter. It doesn't run at the moment but I have worked on motorcycles, jet skis, atv's, cars etc and these motors are pretty basic looking so I don't think that will be too much of a challenge. There are a couple of parts that I am struggling to find. Like the front handle bar plastics (they are missing) and a gas tank (current one has some rust on the inside). Without knowing the model it has been a struggle trying to find these model specific parts.
I have been searching online to decode the vin number and this is what I found:
VIN : L9NTEACX1C1000000 (the last 6 zeros are the production serial number I left that out)
The first 3 of the vin "L9N" is the manufacture = Zhejiang Taotao Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd
The 4th "T" is the vehicle type = scooter
The 5th "E" is the engine type = Four-stroke, forced air-cooled + oil-cooled, vertical, single-cylinder, gasoline engine
The 6th "A" is the Engine Displacement = 49CC
The 7th and 8th "CX" is the Model code. This is where I am stuck. I cannot figure out what model code this is. The vin decoder I found doesn't have a CX
The 9th "1" is the chech digit I think this is some sort of vin security feature but I don't know for sure. I think it is irrelevant here but I may be wrong.
The 10th "C" is the year = 2012
The 11th "1" is the assemble plant = Zhejiang Taotao Vehicles Co., Ltd.
So the one part from the vin I cannot locate is the "CX" model code. Which is the part I am looking for... Can anyone help? Also if you do know what model this is are there other names this scooter goes by when searching for parts or a similar style scooter that has interchangeable parts?
