When we were kids (70+ going on) we'd attach squirrel tails to the grips of bicycles for decoration and we'd compete as kids do for the biggest and most colorful and so on. I go on Amazon and Ebay and all I come up with is squirrel tail for tying. I take it that refers to a sort of fishing. I did run across a couple of costumers selling ridiculous oversized fabric tails for parties and such-- But none of the sort I'm looking for. Anyway any folks here been around long enough to recall this boyhood activity? And lastly don't recall if they were tails from actual critters, but I did contact a couple of sellers asking if their tails could be adapted for such use. Those of you familiar with fishing could these used in the manner I speak of on bikes, heck even on scoots?

I have some vague memory of squirrel tails on bike grips. nothing about fishing . remember a Davy Crockett coonskin hat with a tail or maybe Dan'l Boone . guess you could get 2 hats for about 14$ , cut the tail off .

And before opening this thread I thought it would be about squirrels running across the street into scooter’s paths.

^ yeah I thought it was going to be tales of plinking squirrels off with a BB gun. But no, all I can picture is a 50s hot rod with a squirrel tail hanging off the tip of the antenna. A decade or two before my time.

Squirrel tail for tying? I would guess that's for Fisher folk to make their own lures or flies some tie their own for practical use some just for decoration,a lot of fishing tackle is designed to catch anglers not fish!squirrel tails aren,t something I remember attached to cycles but I can recall bar end attachments kinda like dreamcatcher stuff and beads trailing off them.the north american grey squirrel is considered vermin here in the UK and can be very destructive if it adopts your attic as a home,if I ever get one I will glady send you its tail. So from the 70,s I send you wrangler badges, crombies,Ben shermans enjoy
