Hi there, New member from Newbury, UK I'm from the vintage Vespa world but found a strange fascination with the Prebug BWS/Zumas and this week I picked up a pair of 1989 Prebugs, quite rare to find over here! Obviously they are both going to need a ton of work but I restore Vespas all the time so hopefully won't be too big of a challenge It would be nice to have a nice white/blue white/red pair when they are eventually finished: This is the goal: I think I'll keep one totally stock and the other will have a 70cc kit + goodies. One quick question, do these need a battery to run? Or is the battery just for the electric start & lights? I used to Have a Honda CT90 and hated it when the rectifier stopped charging the battery and the engine would die! This looks like a great forum Cheers, Roger

Roger, welcome to the forum, looks like you have your work cut out, both of my Yamaha scoots start and run without the battery but the indicators won,t operate properly, you can pick up a battery up for under £20 in the UK.

Roger, use an on line parts catalogue to find the Yamaha part number you need and then pop down the rabbit hole of goggle type in the number with every combination of caps dots dashes etc it normally comes up good but buyer beware, there's a lot of NOS =new old stock out there. Geoff

Many thanks Geoff, I'll give that a go - and glad to know the spark isn't reliant on a fully charged battery, one less thing to go wrong!

I had my eye on those bw,s a while back. Looks like you could make up a really nice bw,s out of that lot. Mind if I ask how much you got it all for in the end ?

I paid £450 which I thought was ok since there’s 3 motors and they have V5s, the owner has another couple of prebugs he wants to sell, send me a pm and I can give you his number if you are interested, cheers!

Interesting choice. You don't see that brand advertised for sale on the big main sites. Will be interesting to see how it performs. What would you say the performance is similar to? Any ideas of peak power/revs, and an exhaust that would be compatible?

Any ideas of peak power/revs, and an exhaust that would be compatible? It looks like the Pinasco kit would be similar in performance to the Polini cast iron kit, torque rather than high revving which I'm fine with, I'll probably pair it with a Wild Lion exhaust, I'm happy cruising at 40-45mph with just a little extra in reserve. One of the main reasons to use the Pinasco kit is so I can use my cool sticker which I've had for years... I may finally have a suitable scooter to use it on! Seems like as good a reason as any to use that kit
