Out riding today, 6090 miles on the bike. Vespa says to swap the belt at 6k and wouldn’t you know it… out for 3 hours in beautiful weather and the belt went kaput. Had to get towed back to my house. If I had a belt I had the tools to swap it on the side of the road, but, alas, no.
Wrecked a killer day.

That's not a lot of extra miles. Was it at the service limit width wise?

Never makes for the best day; even when you can fix it on the road.
Kinda surprised. The only big scoot I'm used to is the TMAX, and I just swapped my belt out at 28,000 miles. I figured the large Piaggio/Vespa stuff would be good for at least 10,000. I'd probably be changing them out at 5,000 miles after that. The idea of blowing belts on the big scoots worries me more, because most of us don't venture that far from home on the smaller scoots and we aren't typically on highways where it is even more dangerous.
Err, wait... was this the 150? I was initially thinking the 300.

I blew it at 6090 miles, the limit was 6000. The guy at the shop was like that’s interesting because it used to be 9k and he thought Piaggio was just trying to get more service dollars by making it at 6k. Turns out it’s really at 6k.
We figure the HPE engines on the news GTS 300’s just push the limits on everything. Same thing with oil, it burns a lot. The trade off is that it’s really fast.
Go figure.
I did put 2000 miles on it at nearly full throttle for 8 hours a day. I was doing 65-76 mph the whole way.
Got the parts for the 6k service. All in all it was a $400 day (tow plus parts plus and extra belt at $94 per).

I got some pics of the mess. I fixed it a while ago. Lesson learned, check your belts. When the blow the belts beaks apart and all the shit ends up in your clutch. I had to hold it on a vice, pull and twist it to open it up, then use shears to cut all that stuff out of there. Plus it made a mess in the cvt cover that I had to clean with brake cleaner.
