Can't really say it depends on how he did it and how good of a job he did and what exactly was leaking. If case had a crack that is not in a stresses area and he cleaned and sanded area and used JB weld I would say it could seal for a very long time. If the crack was in a area that has a lot of stress on it unless he welded it probably not that long

What he said... Additionally, if the crack was in the CVT cover, such as at the kickstart, it likely will not have a lasting repair. The kickstart is a lot of stress on the CVT cover. The gasket between the CVT/case and the CVT cover is not absolutely necessary. There should be no oil, lube or grease leaking from the CVT, so it serves to keep water and road 'stuff' out of the CVT. Without that gasket, or with one that is not perfect, you may get water and dust, but if you are reasonably careful, you should be fine. There are two liquids that can get into the CVT, engine oil and final drive gear lube, 85W-90 type stuff. Both would leak from their respective sumps via the seals on the crankshaft and the input gear shaft(behind the clutch). They should NOT leak in normal conditions. The seals can be replaced if they leak, without complete disassembly of the engine/final drive. tom
