The reason I have been quiet here is that work the past 6 months has been hell. Weeks of long hours with an occasional day off has taken most of my time. I've been riding and doing the occasional repair here and there but no real garage time. Well that is changing.
I was planning to retire from my full time job in August 2020 but as we all know that wasn't a good time to do much of anything. Also my direct super visor had left in late April and they needed someone to take over some of her job so I stuck around. I managed to book our theaters with lots of Covid safe events and shows to bring in money and was very successful. At some points I had things in all 3 theaters that didn't require audiences. The local college that I attended started videoing their shows and we had 3 in the Fall of 2020 and one in the Spring of 2021. I had blood drives, small company meetings, a dance school and orchestra rehearsals that kept the building and me busy. We got a new President/CEO that kept talking about hiring someone to take over and it finally happened late October so I had 2 months to train her. They gave me an end date of December 31 and it is fast approaching. The best thing is that we traditionally close December 24 until just after January 1 and I am getting those days paid. They also agreed to pay me out for my 3 weeks paid vacation I am owed because they didn't want me to make the 2 months training more like 5 weeks.
So here I am looking at the rest of my life. I am drawing my ex-wife's social security, which isn't much and I'm on Medicare with an advantage plan that is better than any health care I've had for the past 20 years. Of course they may keep me around for Part-time work on an hourly basis and have scheduled me to screen an opera January 1. I'm in talks with a ballet company to production manage their summer season for 4 weeks. I have been talking to a local theater festival that is interested in me managing a venue for them for 10 days in August. I am a card carrying member of the stagehand local so I will get calls for that and spend my golden years pushing road boxes and running follow spot for all sorts of things. When I want to slow down I can always draw my own SS and be able to work even less. But all of this will be things I want to do.
I have lots of deferred projects around the house that will also keep me busy. And there is the storage unit full of Japanese scooters that all want a new life and I'll get running and sell. And of course there is the Old Geeks Shifty Vespa in the back of my garage that calls out to me every time I look its way. I also have the sailboat projects and sailing to look forward to. I hope to do some traveling as well I'm looking forward to visiting Old Geek and tearing up Myrtle Beach on the SR50. Who knows I might find myself in Wales listing Milly. All in all life is good and and I look forward to living it on my own terms.
Edit: A Merry Christmas to all.
