cockney Rhyming slang was invented in london by the criminal under world to deceive the police. two criminals could speak in code in a pub for example, and anyone eves dropping on the conversation (like an under cover police man) wouldnt have a clue what they were talking about. over the years cockney rhyming slang has become entwined into the english language. and then to confuse things further cockney rhyming slang often gets shortened, for example pony and trap means crap, but in more modern times Pony and trap has been shortened to just Pony. So if an english person said thats pony mate, thats also crap so what the o.p was saying was the ride put a smile on his 'boat race' = face but in more modern times Boat race is often shortened to Boat... "cor blimey look at the Boat on her" if your confused.... thats exactly what cockney rhyming slang was intended to do.

I went for a rip on my Roughhouse, moped slang for a fast ride. we use the term rip quite a bit too in the U.K I find people in the U.K are quite knowledgeable on American phrases and slang, as we get so much American films and shows on the Roger Mellie over here

Rip is good! I am aware that American slang (language to us) can cause some amusement over there. As long as we all (variation of y'all) can mutually laugh at our 'common' language we'll be fine! I heard some Russian temp workers summer before last getting hysterical when a customer asked about bathroom cups (here that meant 3 oz disposeable drinking cups). It's all great!

I'm learning alot of slang from different bike forums plus a buddy of mine is from England, he rides a Genuine scoot also. I also ride a Royal Enfield so that site is mostly of English riders. Moped people from here, they have their own speak also.
