Twitching, the urge to see rare birds in strange locations,I suffer from this affliction but not to much , a Belted Kingfisher (a north american native) has found it,s way to Preston in the UK and has caused quite a fuss amongst twitchers,I am full of admiration for the local farmer who has opened his field as a car park @£10 a pop,he could charge a lot more Geoff

im from the U.K too and do like to see the birds (feathered as well as female type) I wouldnt say im a twitcher though, ive just had a natural curiosity for wild life in general all my life. On new years day I was in a place called Chinnor, and there was a lot of Red Kite there, not a particularly rare bird these days in the U.K, but you dont see them where i live 70 odd miles further up the motorway in Coventry. anyway I managed to get a nice couple of photos of some with my diminutive zoom lens... No pictures of a belted King fisher though.... sorry

I was driving in the truck yest. and what looked like a young hawk , light brownish , and spots just appeared on my right side and stayed there for a few seconds ; never flapped once , just gliding. pretty cool.

Those are decent images,a red kite would cause a twitch here in greater Manchester Geoff Thanks... I do my best with the modest equipment i have, i havent got a massive lens in regards to zoom, most of my pictures of birds are at full zoom with a massive crop. The Red Kite as you are probably aware were extinct in the U.K, due to persecution from farmers etc. some breeding pairs were introduced in Wales and the Chiltern hills, and it has been a success. The Red Kites are multiplying and gradually moving through the country. I ve spotted Red kite in Peterborough which is quite some way from Wales or The Chiltern Hills. So you never know maybe one day they may even get as far as Manchester. In Coventry the biggest Bird of Prey we get is the Common Buzzard, about the same size as a Kite but not as pretty, But they fly quite high so all my photos arent amazing detail wise with my modest set up.

Lots of sea gulls round here. 😬 I was reading an article last year that more and more Gulls have moved inland since Covid struck. There isnt the same amount of holiday makers at the coast in the last couple of years for them to scavenge from.
