One thing that always drove me crazy about racing games was no seat of the pants feel. I used many steering wheel setups, even some with a vibration mode, but none of them gave the right feel. Vision was always way off. I was too accustomed to driving 'real' vehicles. I am just too old to drive computer cars. I am too old to drive many real cars nowadays, they have too many automatic functions and I don't like it. I am OLD and grumpy.

Ah the old pulley and string setup Reminds me of the tuner pointer in old radios and stereo receivers.

Ah the old pulley and string setup Reminds me of the tuner pointer in old radios and stereo receivers. It seemed quite accurate. I would zero center and set max travel of each potentiometer prior to gaming sessions and never had any issues. Favorite track was Monaco. I was never able to do Eau Rouge at Spa flat out.

Smashing the pedals down would cause slippage in setups like that so an occasional adjustment was required.

I wanted to build an arcade style setup for driving games for years. I was too broke and lazy. The closest I got was buying a force feedback wheel with paddle shifters and pedals. I was playing Need For Speed, Caramgeddon, and some more realistic game that I forget the name of. A friend had a similar setup and an F1 game. I found it to be more frustrating than fun because it was very unforgiving and I wondered if even F1 drivers could play it well. The same friend came very close to buying a Daytona USA arcade game (seated style with pedals and shifter) for his basement... and then he got married. lol
