So here I am with the peugeot thread
But first a little backstory. My cousin used this scooter for daily commuting for a little over a year, then it was left in a shed from April 2021 after he got a '72 Vespa Special. It never ran exceptionally well, didn't have any go-fast part so it only reached around 60Km/h. In the last period it stopped running, most probably because the fuel valve was faulty, no fuel was going to the carb bowl. After attaching a plastic bottle as a temporary fuel tank we managed to get it started immediately, so now it's tuning time!
I started with the cylinder, which i'm not sure if it's the original since it's marked '05 production. Also i was surprised finding out that it wasn't cas iron but aluminum Do all peugeot scoots come with aluminum cylinders maybe?
Anyway, first i enlarged the exhaust duct from 22 to 28mm, I also got the port to 180° and 68%, but i don't have pics of that at the moment
Next up: the transfers. Started cleaning up a bit the ports with my DIY porting tool, doesn't work too well but it got the job done
I also made some mods to the transfer base, removed a couple of lips and smoothened all out. Soon i'm going to sandblast the transfer to get an excellent surface finish
ok so now the cylinder is pretty much complete, i'll just have to check the squish and lower the head accordingly.
Next, the exhaust. Being this a project with an extremely low budget buying a new exhaust was not an option. I wasn't able to find a used one in the nearby, as peugeot scoots are very unusual in the area and nobody really bothers to tune them. So i decided to make my own
So here is how it looks at the moment, i'm really stoked with the result so far and i can't wait to hear it! Not sure if i'm going to keep this silencer or make one with a "more professional look"
And that's the point where i am with with the project, and now i have a couple of questions i need help with:
1) Is the stock CDI restricted? i am making a parts list to order and i'd like to know if i should buy an aftermarket cdi, cause i've heard that peugeots have rev limited CDIs, but maybe since this is an older model i thoight that it might not have any restriction. If it's the case i think i will buy this CDI
2) Has anyone ever tried the Motoforce variator? i need to change the stock one because it's really awful and also in bad condition, the roller tracks (is this the way they are called in english?) are very very shallow and also quite worn out, as the rollers were so worn out that on one side the shell was completely gone . So i found this one for a pretty good price
i'm sure it's also sold under other brands but to me it looks pretty good
