Typically I a a 'whiz bang' at GY6 engines. Anyway...here is the deal. Guy I know owns a scooter shop. he had a brand new...'showroom scoot' It is a Jonway Hornet )identical to their new Wasp. With a 2 stroke minarelli engine. Never run or started....was moved into a back room to use for parts. All taken from it so far were the mirrors...left front turn signal......break switch cable.....and it appears the ignition coil as I am not familiar where they are located on this beast. I noticed the minarelli cdi still mounted to the frame there. But I was told they used a diff type of CDI...which is obvious since it is factory mounted. Ok on the coil do they use a diff coil on than the GY6?....our will one those work? I found 2 wires too ...not able to trace where they go....but on the green there is a bolt in it....the other next to it is yellow....with a typical press on connector. Will try to get pics asap.....but for 400 bucks I could not pass the deal down. The oil reservoir is factory fresh and never seen oil..and not a single....nick...or scratch anywhere. My guess is that coil....the one green wire is bolted to the frame....and the yellow one comes from CDI and presses onto the coil.... But tickled for the price.. :thumb: I do find the stereo system it came is...is cheezy and a good way to NOT hear traffic.... :cager:

CDI is definitely different. The coil is different, but a GY6 coil would likely work on it. They can be had so cheap online it's worth just getting the right one. Something like $15 on eBay or Scrappy IIRC. Coil wires tend to be black and black/white or black/yellow on mine, but it varies among manufacturers sometimes. If you can't trace the wires by sight, perhaps a mulitmeter set to ohms. One should show continuity with ground and one with the CDI if it's a coil connection.

So is it the consensus.....that the GY6 coil will not work?....have a few new spares of those....tried one...and no matter how it was wired...it didn't work.... :banghead:
