Hi.
I have a Peugeot Vivacity 2011 (V1AAAA).
Today I drove it home, after it had been parked for a day or two.
I fire up the scooter, kick-start works instantly. I swing out onto the road, things are fine, but I notice the scooter isn't responding according to the throttle, it sits around 25 km/h on an almost flat road, top speed is 45.
After driving a km, I pull of the road and let the engine idle a while, then I drive up a steep incline. The scooter still seems sluggish and less powerful than expected.
I get to where I park at home, and turn off the scooter.
Then I fire it up again, and throttle the gas while holding the breaks. I max the throttle, it revs up to a certain point, then it keeps that level for maybe 10 seconds, then it responds and revs up higher. I turn it off, and there is some burnt smell.
I go inside, and a few minutes later I go out and fire up the scooter again. I'm surprised, because this time it instantly responds, and holding the brakes doesn't help, so I need to throttle down.
Any ideas what's up here? It ran fine before I parked it a couple of days ago, so I'm a bit surprised that this happened. I'm also surprised that the problem more or less instantly fixes itself, after it having being parked for a couple of minutes.
TIA,
Morten

First thing to check is the acc cable free play at both ends,on my Yamaha someone once tampered with the adjuster in my absence.

OK, I can look at that. But I don't see it as plausible, how can it correct itself in a few minutes? Also, if I hold the throttle at max, and it revs up, then plateaus for some seconds and then revs up further, how is that possible?
The cable won't tighten itself.

I should add that it was running unevenly when the gas throttle was steady.
I mailed with a workshop, and they thought it sounded like something from the fuel system.
The previous owner says he had a similar problem last year, and that cleaning the air filter and replacing the spark plug fixed the problem.
And that it ran fine 60-70 kilometres after that. And then it was into winter storage.

I've talked to some people, and several have suggested condensation. It was fairly low temperatures, close to 0 degrees celsius the days before this happened.
What do you think?

Your symptoms of poor performance, burnt smell and a self fix reminds me of having a mouse nest in the exhaust over winter. Machine runs like crap till the nest gets blasted out then, walla, fixed.

Clean your carb and carb jets and go from there.

Clean your carb and carb jets and go from there. I think I'll turn it in to the workshop, and let them do a full check and service.
Since it is just bought, used, and I'm not an experienced scooter mechanic. I think this is the best choice.
I've also looked at dry gas and alkylate gasoline; it looks like dry gas is a sure bet to remove water which could cause some similar symptoms. And I don't know if alkylate gasoline is so "pure" that it will help clean the system?
The bit I described earlier with the scooter just fixing itself, this happened after it had been driven up a fairly steep incline for a couple of hundred meters. I don't know if that's relevant?

I hope you reported that to the police.

So look. Yeah a shop can help you out. But there are 20293847 things that can go wrong during your drive. I just had a naraku belt (never buy naraku EVER) Belt blow up on me. Ruined the splines on my clutch. Almost ruined my cylinder that I am still breaking in. Or maybe it did? Idk yet. RUINED my top performance variator AND Locked my wheel to a complete stop so i couldnt even wheel home. If i didnt have an 8mm and knew what to take off, i wouldve had to ditch the scooter and walk home. What happened? A piece of teeny tiny belt made its way into my clutch bell and physically wedged between the bell and the case. But wowwww dude did it destroy all my aluminum parts All from a BRAND NEW belt failing. If i didnt know how to take my scoot apart, I would be dead in the water. Its not a lot to learn, And we can help you out. Patience will help you learn every piece in that machine VERY quickly. We can help you out through every step, We wont let you down here. Even if you build a mild cylinder, Sometimes parts will fail in a spectacular way. It helps a lot to know your machine

I have the original from 2003 bando vs belt in there right now, and it is doing just fine; So I don't think its an aligment or mounting problem. Heres a pic of the naraku, The outside peeled off somehow; But the rest of the belt you can see is brand new. I could even go with a longer belt than the 788; I think the polini evo belts do it. Edit: I got my scoot to work but getting things off for tuning is quite the hassle now. I will eventually need a new crank.

Carb cleaning is probably needed bad . Used scooters are notorious for poor carb cleaning. Many of of us have picked up non running scoots in the spring for pennies and cleaned the carb drained the old bad gas and flipped them for a few bucks . The jets are easy to plug up.
Carb cleaning is not a tough job take alot of pictures /plenty of you tube videos to follow I have boiled the brass jets in vinegar to clean them up and a small wire to clean the jets and passages and compressed air
I run a fuel stabilizer(sea foam) over the winter in my full Gas Tank.

When your scooter fixes itself after sitting it has cooled down . If it has problems after going up hill then engines has been working harder. Another problem are for 2 strokes is air leaks . What color is your current spark plug greyish white ,brown or black? You can check for exhaust leaks when the scooter is running take a wet rag and plug the exhaust . If it kills quick you are good if it keeps running that is a problem . You also can look for air manifold leaks . When the scooter is funning You can take wd 40 /carb cleaner and spray around the seams of the carburetor and manifold if the rpms change you have a air leak there . use this diagram to get clues from your sparkplug

The only thing I would add to that.... An ultrasonic cleaner with lemon scented simple green And a little wd40 gets my carbs looking literally new with almost zero effort. I have cleaned carbs from 1960s farm equipments that are straight mud packed with a couple hours in the ultrasonic cleaner. I got a cheap one off amazon.
