Yes it really hurt, my 2009 megane needed a cam belt changed, after a family intervention " I " decided it was beyond my capabilities so I booked it in at a local garage, three days later and many chaotic phone calls it,s back done and dusted, parts labour and tax all in £408, but labour is now £60 per hour + tax, I hope I can fix the next problem myself Geoff

Cars ain't cheap. My brother had a 2004 golf GTI. When it was four years old and needed the 60,000 miles service it was £900. He sold it soon after that. 😬

I had the transmission fluid changed, oil changed, a sticky door window fixed, hidden wipers re-timed after ice, and a turn signal fixed on an old Chevy Venture van. $1200.00 and the turn signal failed right after the 90 day warranty. Thankfully I don't drive much. Cars suck.

Yeah, cars are the biggest waste of money financially wise. Luckily I can do most maintenance and repair jobs myself. Just don't feel like dumping thousands of pennies into a car. I have parked my T-5R for a while now. Soon after I bought it in 2016 it blew the trans. That would be a €2000+ bill to have it replaced by a shop. Bought a 100k mile trans from a T5 at the junkyard and swapped it myself. Did timing belt, tensioner, water pump and all oil seals while at it. Still a €500 repair in the end, but it's better than 2000+.
Now I drive a tiny little 2001 twingo. It's cheap and conservative on fuel. It's a shitbox but whatever lol.

I used to do all of my own repairs but age, injuries, and diabetes medications finished all that. BEWARE it could happen to YOU!
The turn signal is still forked.

Yes cars suck. More of us old people (pause for a minute while I cry) could really use an eletric 3 wheeler with a lower seating position than a normal bike. A 2 car couple ould save thousands of $ per year if they got rid of one.

It often takes two old cars just to be able to keep one running while the other is in the shop. That means tags, insurance, and maintenance on two. Insurance is the biggest ripoff, I can only drive one at a time but they charge like I am driving both. why can't I buy insurance on ME driving ONE car
