Been getting my shit together lately, and the garage is looking very empty now sadly. Sold my Yamaha Vino and beloved (but shitty) Taotao 155 to fund a trip to Randos Ride 2022. In place of the Vino or Tao, I bought what I thought would be a better, beefier Vino. A Brit Edition Buddy 50 with low miles for 600 bucks. Buddy 50 stock is probably the worst wheelie bike imaginable. Stiff, low on power, tall and awkward. Left St Louis feeling kinda butt hurt about my choices, as my buddies on Elites, Zumas, pitbikes and Groms killed it all weekend. Was determined to salvage some of my summer and get a good wheelie bike. Got a decent paying job, saved some checks and 3 weeks ago brought home this bucket of bolts. Look familiar? Its basically the exact same bike I started my stunt journey on over a year ago! 1992 Elite SR with 4300 miles in the puprle black and blue livery. It was too perfect it seemed. Came as 1.5 bikes with am extra frame, some plastics, seat and a bottom end. My buddy that had the bike said he'd bought it off a guy and it ran, but after taking the carb apart and cleaning it, the bike puked gas out the overflow horribly. Took it home, found that he forgot to install the float needle entirely. Thought I was in the clear! ........barely started, had no power, no idle, only did about 15mph. Changed carbs, reeds, intakes, variators.....nada. Eventually said screw it and took the top end off to find that the guy who owned it before my buddy may have pulled a fast one. Head on backwards, two head gaskets (which I thought was the sole cause of literal almost zero compression).....then the poor piston. So, she sat like this in the garage while I wanted to do what I always did when a bike took a turn and I didnt know what to expect. Give up But Im trying to change up my mindset, and I really wanted this bike. So a lil while later, some goods arrived courtesy of ScooterSwapShop. Cleaned the surfaces, installed the Malossi 70cc kit with help from my buddy who sold me the bike. The immediate spike in compression basically told me it was at least somewhat fixed. Ended up with a 96 jet from the stock 88, which I think is huge but it doesnt run bad and the plug is brown so I wont complain. Stock pipe, carb, airbox, and cvt which was a nightmare to figure out (gy6 50 16x13 rollers are taller than the honda 16x13s and make your bike slow). She does only 35 which im gonna blame on the stock cvt, but she rips for wheelies. Pops up at 20+ with no problem. My Vino wouldnt even try past 20. Shes not perfect but it runs awesome, and I cant wait to turn it into my new money pit 😂. Not bad for around 810 bucks all in.

The quest for more top speed. Only does about 35 and it struggles. Instead of shelling out 50 to 100 dollars for a variator, I figured id try some others first. I have an old 139qmb stock variator. Have a couple, but on some the boss wont fit and one i have is really worn. Got one going with 9 and 6g rollers in for 7.5g. Went with a ramp plate with a less steep plate angle, at least from eyeballing. Its raining now so i cant say too much but it spun the tire on the wet pavement when i wasnt sitting on it. Takes off, revs a lil high then gets going. Belt slip or rollers too light? Pull up to 35 doesnt feel too different, from 30 to 35 actually felt a tad slower if anything. But it pulled past 35 on a very slight uphill sitting up, so im hopeful! Name of the game is to get to 40 so i can cruise at 35 but still keep yhe power or shift point low so i can throw back wheelies at 25-30. Ill test more in the morning once the rain stops. But while we wait, can ya believe the sunset??

Gy6 50 variator works pretty good! 7.5g mix took the top speed to 39 from like 34 before. That was sitting up with some wind. Still has enough power to pop wheelies at 25-30. Has a lil less punch than the stock variator but idc for the ability to cruise at 35. Tried 8.5g and the top end was better maybe but overall too low rpm and it struggled below 30. Not bad for a free variator i had laying around

Been playing tuner and messing with variators and ramp plates. The 139qmb variator with 7.5g weights was great for cruising and top speed, but it sorta sucks for wheelies. Have to constantly babysit the throttle and it doesnt really coast or feel like its not stressing. Figured id give up a few mph for some pep back. Remembered the Honda ramp plate had a steeper angle, figured itd keep the cvt in an overall lower gear from the rollers having to fight it more and not throwing out fast. The Honda ramp plate with 7g rollers......was horrible. Did 35 but lacked power over 15, revved way too high. So the ramp plate seemed to be the limiting factor.
Tried the stock honda variator with the stock weights, then a 9g mix with the gy6 ramp plate. This is the best combo so far but it has its issues. Bogs super bad off the line. Way worse than even my old stock af05 with the malossi belt. Once it hits.....butter. All day. Has tons of wheelie juice, it actually lets go and coasts like Elites are supposed to. Doesnt do 40, but does over 35 and lets me easily cruise there. The 10g all stock rollers made it super weak up hills so i threw in some 8g 16x13. Theyre slightly taller than the Honda rollers which i think makes the plate stick out farther, making the bog worse. May go back to all honda rollers. Overall a nice wheelie setup with enough to let me ride across town without stress. This AF05 just doesnt make the power to have both good pull and do 40 as it sits
Edit: threw all honda rollers back in and top speed went up a bit, not as high as the full qmb variator but better than with the mix. The bog is also way better. More a slightly slow start than a dead hit. The Honda variator hates the bigger rollers no matter what, maybe theyre limiting the travel?

Been a while! Did some more mods to the scoot, Im honestly on the brink of doing an af16 swap but this little AF05 impresses me a little every time i ride it. Fucked up and ran uneven weights for around 400 miles. Luckily crank is okay, bearings are smooth. She started really losing power. Ordered new rings, an NCY pipe, variator, weights, malossi belt, and 1500 rpm springs for the clutch. 2 day shipping took 2 weeks (not the shops fault, USPS is horrible). Got impatient and threw the old rings back in, using the less worn bottom ring on the top. After around a week of trial and error, she rips! Could probably do 45 if it wanted and rips wheelies about as fast as I need. Im impressed for stock carb and intake. Strangely, the 139qmb variator worked better than the Jayaco. The same setup on an AF16 has like 3x the power but im not sure if I should swap. For now, Elite 2.0 is a success and Im loving it a lot. Shes going to the South scooter ride in Dallas, beginning of October to see if she can keep up with the true OG's 👏

Been a while since ive logged in. Elite has underwent a complete overhaul. At the South Side ride (most fun ive had all year btw, Texas dudes know how to get down), it was obvious that while the af05 would do the job, itd do the bare minimum. She kept up decent but when the pace picked up past 30-35 she was left in the dust by all the dios and elites with the same setup. It never ran that good again. Its been down on power ever since. Ive ran into a weird problem with the af05 where i genuinely believe with a pipe the stock carb isnt big enough. No air leaks im confident, had to special order a 102 main jet and the plug still could have been richer. Inconsistent running, low power, sputtering. Im sure you can tune an AF05 right, and many people have, but I was done putting money into it. So as of this week, shes a proper Elite! Buddy hooked me up with a parts S which I robbed the motor, wheels and plastics from. I traded my SR plastics to my buddy so I didnt have to paint them. It worked out. Shes not perfect still, needs some paint maybe and definitely painted wheels but I love it. Stock AF16 with a Jayaco variator. Trying to break 38 but im not too upset about it. The Af05 went 42 the last run I did. Healthy ran around 45. It had a lil more juice, mostly up top but the swap was so worth it given what the 16s are capable of. I have those spare cases, planning on at some point building a bad mini stroker. But for now, shes a stock baby. Over winter ill save up for a 70cc or 75cc build, not sure which I want to do. Want to give the 75cc a try since that cylinder was more than good to me on my old SR. Goal is 55-60mph and wheelies in the high 40s to keep up with big bike rides 🤙 Ill get more pics tomorrow probably in a little better light

75cc install went HORRIBLE but she runs at least. Took super long to get the c clips in, bent 4, snapped a head bolt, and the exhaust doesnt fit with the 75. Bolted it to the head and ran a skinny bolt with a nut on the back just to have something there. And one of my exhaust nuts stripped so gotta get some extractor sockets. At least it doesnt leak 🙃

Not a Honda guy, but sometimes the flange is clocked different on different cylinders. If that's the issue, then you may be able to elongate the bolt holes in the flange to allow you to rotate the exhaust for better fit. Whatever you do, don't force an exhaust on. If you have to push the pipe into place and hold it with force to get it to bolt on, then it's likely to fail in the future. You're sort of trapping that tension in the assembly and stressing the pipe and mounting locations.

Its not really the angle, the flange i think is thicker on the 75 so the pipe is pulled forward past the holes in the case. If i can ill drill the holes longer so i can get the proper bolt in

After going back and forth about 30 times with cvt setups, final verdict issss....
44.
Im not the happiest about it but it did gain 7mph over stock and a whole butt load of pull. Ik the pipe is holding it back but I want to keep it quiet so I have some 9.8 gears on the way direct from da crazy Hawaiian boys 🤙🤙
Gets to 40 stupid fast though. Settled on the Jayaco vari, the belt from my AF05e, one shim and 7g rollers. Every other setup has a low top speed or just feels weird. Riding it around for 10 minutes then doing top speed runs the 3rd day counts as a break in right? 🤣
