The easiest way to tell us with everything assembled up to the castellated nut. The nut should sit about 1mm over the shoulder of the crank.

here is what Aerox is talking about www.pedparts.co.uk/blog/variator-fitting-crankshaft-pulley-spline-damageif it is too long it will push the castle nut out too far on crank. 2nd thing to check after you know it is safe for the crank is take a sharpie from edge to edge and run down road full blast and measure in mm how much is left on the outer edge of variator

Not really sure what your concern is? Is it that the boss extends beyond the belt edge? So when the fixed sheave is installed there is a sidegap?
If so, I don't think it would be an issue of the shaft end/nut position.
That first photo would appear to be the movable sheave being too far inboard (assuming the belt width is proper) The movable sheave position is controlled by the ramp plate and flyweights.
Are the flyweights in position and the proper ones?
Not sure about all, but the drive pulley setup on my 150 has the ramp plate butted up against a very small shoulder edge of the crankshaft. Really small. It surprises my that the thing even works its so small. If yours is similar, check to make sure the ramp plate is in place and not riding up onto the next level.

Thank you guys. That explanation is very clear. I'll set this up as explained but before doing the sharpie test will have to first get the scooter running
