I got a call from a guy that has a Triton today. Same guy I sold the kick lever to a few months back. He said he wrecked his scooter and the kicker stopped working. I got over there and the case was broken so I said what's wrong with the electric starter and he said it was broken too. I brought it home and hooked up a good battery to it and the starter clutch was slipping. On disassembly I found that the belt was almost gone and the CVT area had never been cleaned out. The Variator and drive face had deep grooves in them and the starter clutch was packed with so much dust the spring thingies (don't know the proper name ) in there were frozen in place causing the slipping. Long story short, I cleaned it all out and put a dab of grease on each of the spring thingies and it starts with the electric start now. He's going to replace the variator and belt and case as soon as he can afford it. He also broke the left side brake lever bracket so the brake light stays on and the brake is useless. Anyway, I am proud that I was able to diagnose and fix it because I have never had to actually mess with a starter clutch till now. Simple little thing really. Anyone know where to get a new left side switch assy/brake lever bracket? Thanks!

Cool, gald you got another job . Amazing how many people just gas-an-go until their scooter quits. Or wrecks and breaks ...

Yeah, I always tell people that you can't gas and go indefinitely and expect it to last forever.
So what are those little cylindrical metal things with the springs in the starter clutch called anyway?

I think I have just the parts you're looking for. I'm guessing when you said he broke the case, you mean he broke the CVT cover? I have a brand new Triton CVT cover sitting on my kitchen table I also have a kick lever off of a RX8 (not the kind I gave you for your Zip, its actually the flip-out kind) you could probably throw that on. It looks well-used, so a coat of paint would help. I'm 99% sure I have a whole left switch assembly. I ended up breaking the same piece off of my left handle when I slipped on some gravel and went down last summer. I got my replacement from partsforscooters for like $14 after shipping. That was before I came across all these parts

Unless someone else out there knows the engineering term for those things of course...

Works for me. Never really heard many people talk about them and if they do it's always something like you said.

Besides that he's a haggler and I'd rather not haggle.
