Such an odd symptom. And possibly common? Someone must have experience or the low down on this.

Hi Snaker,
Think I solved it!
I drained oil and coolant removed the water pump, oil pump etc. And cracked the engine cover open...
Had a good look and seems there was too much tension on the clutch adjustment screw... So loosened the lock nut and gave it a few turns outwards, this lowered the clutch plates visibly and fixed the tension issue, previously mentioned, on the clutch lever (up top). Gave the clutch a good few pulls and the actuator lifted very slightly on first pull, probably to its correct hight, but not at all there after... No more walking upwards!
Naturally, all gaskets were replaced, coolant refilled and picking up new transmission oil in the morning, and sump plug 🤣.
Then we test again.
Cheers!

Take a look at this Can't say for sure that is your design but, that screw could be the ticket.

Hi Snaker,
Is that the inside of the engine casing?
I didn't strip the engine down that far, only removed outside covers. Makes sense to keep it in place, certainly wouldn't be able to remove the lever by hand from the outside then.

I was doing a search and of course was mostly getting peddlers selling stuff. But at one point I was scanning images, ran past this, thought wait a minute, and came back. No machine, no description.
I would say that it is the case cover that the actuator goes into. Looks wet so oil and gasket required. I'm assuming that you took off the cover on the opposite side (clutch basket)
It looks to say Minarelli in the casting. You can see the arm at the top and the darker part resembles your actuator shaft That slotted screw looks to be positioned at the hour glass shape of the shaft.

Thought I should add. If you made large adjustments to the clutch, that all may change once the actuator is working properly. Might hold off on installing that side or plan on possibly opening it up again.
