When I leave for work in the morning, its about 30 degrees. As to be expected, the bike doesnt run too well for a while. 'Til almost exactly when Im pulling into my job. If I took the fan shroud off, could I expect a seize even when its that cold ? I'm thinking the extra heat could be a benefit in this case.
Regards,
LM in KY

I wouldn't recommend it unless you had a temp sensor and knew what the limits are.
It's funny because on my RC 2T nitro engines they always ran better when hot then cold, big difference in performance. When they got too hot though a new piston and sleeve were in order but they ran better when up to temp as opposed to cool.
I am sure others can chime in with better info.

yeah i wouldnt run around with out the cooling shroud on these are force air cooled engines and if you run for any amount of time with it off i would expect it to over heat and seize
why not let the scoot warm up for a couple min before you head off to work

It runs OK when I find the good spot with the choke but there are still issues. Im beginning to wonder if maybe the carb isnt icing a little. In Vermont we had real dry, cold weather, no real issues even though it was really cold . . .Here in KY, the cold weather is really "wet" or humidious :dunno:

Try a hotter plug.. I do the same with my nitro engines. If it runs like poop until its warm i put a hotter glowplug in. Some nitro fuel blends require hotter plugs to burn it (the oil). You could also try a smaller main.?

it could be winter blend fuel issues also in winter they tend to run gas that doesnt burn as well or as clean never realy thought about it as i buy a couple 5 gallon jugs and treat it for gas for the snow blower and scoots for winter as i cant ride much in the winter but like 2strokd said a hotter plug would help deal with the bad winter fuel

i had a thought on this. could you route some warm air coming off the engine into the air box? would that help in cold weather?

Thanks guys !
yeah, air box next to trans, but the tube that collect air is up under the seat.
I think I might play with some flexo-tubing duct work stuff and try to heat the carb.

It might be happier with some more fuel, try a richer needle setting(lower the clip)...
