The dragy is awesome. Highly recommend it. Currently $20 less than I paid for it 6 months ago too.

Today I figured it was 38 degrees and sunny, what better time for a long ride on a highly experimental and mostly untested scooter right? Up until now the farthest I'd run with the turbo was about 2 miles to the local grocery store, I needed to make a 60 mile round trip run to drop off a camera for repair and the sun was out so out I went. I'm excited to say that nothing blew up, broke down, or exploded in any way. It was a largely mundane and nice ride through the heart of Portland. Engine temps stayed perfect, and it had just unreal gobs of power. I had to make sure I was very easy on the throttle or I very quickly found myself moving MUCH quicker than I meant to. Its sorta deceiving in that it doesn't really have to work very hard to get moving VERY fast, so you just look down and you're WELL over the speed limit. It cruised nicely at 3-4PSI boost and wound out fast if you gunned it. I had one stretch where it was a lot quicker to go 3 miles on an interstate overpass, and I was surprised when I gunned it to merge with traffic to see that my 80MPH speedo was BURRIED and bouncing off the end! Now I'm certain that speedo isn't all that accurate. Scoot speedos never are, but it was moving! I also calculated that I got right about 59MPG which is a little shy of the donor GTS's spec'd 63MPG and well short of the Buddy's original 90MPG spec but I wasn't trying to ride it nice, I was playing with the boost a fair bit. But I'll take it. I'm also happy to see that I can GO 60 miles without running the very small 1.3 gallon tank dry. So wins all around! Like a numpty I forgot to grab my GoPro to capture any of my awesome ride, so you'll just have to read about it. Sorry!

In the quest to get some performance data from my scoot I took it a quick measured run. Since my last GPS run provided more questions than answers I measured out 660ft and took a quick run with my Gopro to see what my time was. Unfortunately I'm having some issues with spark blow-out above 13psi so its not indicative of my ACTUAL top speed, but it was a good try... Also, I'm going to have to find a better spot to do my timed runs as I didn't expect to hit 75MPH in my 1/8th run and thats not really a great idea in a neighborhood...
I also setup a 10hz high accuracy GPS timer, but the app was set to start on acceleration and mounted on my bars triggered the timer early. So I'm gonna have to try that again too somewhere less populated.
Anyway, for what its worth here's an 8.1 second 1/8th run....

Whelp, I think I broke something... I was out for a quick run yesterday when it started running lousy. Not as much power and generally just off. Took it home, and noticed quite a bit of oil down the side of the CVT cover. Traced it to the breather hose. Went to start it back up to check it and it was hard to start, took quite a bit of throttle to get it to fire up. When it finally did it wasn't idling well. A stab at the throttle and it spit a fine mist of fuel and oil out the breather. Ran it up and down the street and it was more than a mist.
I'm gonna say thats likely blow-by and I probably borked up a piston ring or two... Bother. I guess regular 22PSI full drag runs may be the limit for a GTS engine. I'll pull the top end after the holidays and see what there is to see.

Not surprised lol. You went from the initial 7-8 to 22psi. If you fix it you should probably limit it to 15ish.

I have 0 idea how many miles this engine had on it before I got it for extra unknowns... I expected I'd reach this point sometime, no worries. I've got a second top end in my parts pile for when this happened. Now I know what the limits are, which is good. (Assuming thats what broke...)

Boost is like dope, once you experience it, ya gotta try more..Find and fix whats broke and ease back on that boost..

Boost is like dope, once you experience it, ya gotta try more..Find and fix whats broke and ease back on that boost.. Hah! Thats it exactly, it was a hunt for how much boost I could pull. It was seriously fun on a lot of boost and it was tempting to see if I could make it give me a little bit more. Now I know where the edge is, I can ease back a bit. I'm thinking 14-15psi would probably be safe, but we'll see what all I broke and I'll make a plan from there!

So if I’m hearing you right 25psi is what you’re saying?

So if I’m hearing you right 25psi is what you’re saying? 22psi is the most I've pulled so far. I could RELIABLY hold 20psi.

R.I.P at 22PSI.... So I had a moment to pull the head and cylinder of my engine for a suspected cracked ring. Surprisingly the rings held, but I blew out the ring seats on the piston!! Not really a huge deal, as now I know where my engine's limits are. I have a full spare motor for parts so now I just need to pull the piston from that motor, and order some fresh rings. There's no damage to the head or cylinder and nothing actually came loose to bang around inside the engine. Upwards and onwards!!

Surprised actually, thought it would be much worse.
The little engine that could 😆

Surprised actually, thought it would be much worse. The little engine that could 😆 It was still running fairly ok. I could tell something was wrong, and the blowby was horrendous, but it still had more power than most scoots on the road even like that so I was pretty sure it was pretty minor. Surprisingly when I push that chunk back into the piston its almost invisible. The rings were holding it in place pretty well and keeping things from getting bad. I pulled the piston from my parts motor last night, its in good shape so I'm just waiting for a set of gaskets and rings in the mail and we'll put it back on the road.

The ring ends butted up and broke a piece out of the piston? Or what exactly happened?

The ring ends butted up and broke a piece out of the piston? Or what exactly happened? Yeah, high boost pressure caused the rings ends to butt and cracked the ring lands on the piston. The fix for that in the future is to go with a bit wider ring gap on the pistons.
