Finally got through the holidays and the January doldrums... Back at crazy scoot building!
Called up Weisco over the break to see about a stronger piston and they sent me a new one they think will hold up a bit better than the Mallosi one I blew up. I was told this one is from a Ninja ZX1000B +1.5mm oversized that they bushed down for my smaller wrist pin... All I know is it fit nicely and I seem to be pulling about 1PSI more vacuum at idle than I did with the old piston. I'm not sure if thats due to the difference in piston, or if the old piston had more wear than I realized (In a used GTS engine of unknown milage...)
Here's a quick video of it while I was breaking it in this afternoon, it was good to hear this monster roaring again! Now I just need to get it the rest of the way back together!

Was the wiseco piston forged or cast, and did you widen the gap on the rings, and what did you set the ring gap at ??

I took it to 0.40mm using Weisco's calculations for turbo/supercharged gap. Hopefully that'll be enough this time along with keeping the boost lower on pump gas.

Nice, thank you for sharing the information.
And what are you going to use for boost control ??

Nice, thank you for sharing the information. And what are you going to use for boost control ?? Currently I have a manual boost controller on it, which is essentially just a knob that limits vacuum to the wastegate. The wastegate will open at about 10PSI with the controller open, and will go full boost to about 25PSI when closed or anywhere in the middle with the control knob. My ECU actually has the option for electronic boost control, which I may implement down the road as I'm thinking about adding a flex fuel sensor and going E85 if I can find a good source of it. Not a lot of stations carry it(Only 1 within 100 miles of me) but my local bike shop a few miles from me is a VP Racing distributor and is checking on the cost of VP's E85 products for me. I'd have to order a couple 5 gal pails, but it'd be nice to be able to run at 25PSI without blowing things up.

Well I got it out for its first REAL ride beyond the end of the block and I'm nearly certain the old piston had something up with it now. I've got my boost controller set to 12PSI right now, and it feels quite noticeably quicker than it was before at less boost. Now its been a bit over a month since the last time it was rideable so maybe its my imagination, but it seems it. I'll have to get it broken in and do a pull while gathering some empirical data to see.

Great project! The very first on here if im not mistaken! Keep up the good work.
Btw...a proper 2-stroke would still mess up your scooty scoot pretty bad 😈😈😈

Great project! The very first on here if im not mistaken! Keep up the good work. Btw...a proper 2-stroke would still mess up your scooty scoot pretty bad 😈😈😈 Depends on what you call a proper 2-stroke I guess I've got a Yamaha RD350 in the garage (A 2T 350cc cafe bike if you're not familiar with it). Off the line, this thing feels faster... Now once the pipe kicks in the RD will smoke the Buddy(Literally, its a 2T after all. Smoke is what it does). Its a little hard to ride two bikes at the same time to test empirically though! I do agree that CC for CC a 2T will win, but HP is HP at the end of the day and on paper two bikes weighing the same with the same HP should be ROUGHLY the same speed 2T or 4T. I don't know too many scoots 2T or otherwise that are putting down at least 53HP (This was done before I got my boost up to 25PSI, it was somewhere around 15 at that point). There's a couple. Someone with a 53HP 2T would probably beat me just owing to the way 2T's like to put down power and that it would prolly rev higher than I do. It'd be a HELL of a lot of fun to find out at the end of the day though! Scooter Swapshop is about 15 miles from me, and builds those crazy 2 cylinder 100cc minarelli siamese case twins. I'm hoping to talk them into running one against me when this thing is finished(If THAT ever happens!). I've got no idea what sorta power those things put out, but I'll bet they're bonkers. EDIT: I went and looked it up, one of the ones they build is a 204cc 70HP twin 2T. Yeah. That one is gonna kick my ass even if I turn my boost all the way up to 25PSI... Even then math says I should be about 67HP. Not 70...

Created a topic of the 2nd one some time ago, it should still be around somewhere.

I'd ride it rain or shine about 30 miles a day to and from work. Unlike most of my other vehicles this one is fairly stock other than the cafe styling and LED lights. It's probably gonna be the next one under the knife when I finish with the Buddy. Wanna go big bore and try my hand at EFI on a 2T since I've never done an EFI smoker before. Aught to be fun.

At least throw some pipes on that bad boy! I seriously need to. Good RD pipes are EXPENSIVE though. Its gonna happen soon though now that I don't need to daily it. The biggest reason I've not done much to it is it needed to be ready to take me to work each morning so I had to tear it down Saturday and have it back together before Monday morning

For a change it's nice and sunny today which means scooter tuning time! I got out and captured some data to baseline my previous tune vs how its running now. I suspect it's got more power than last time but the question is how much??? Ok, now I'm 100% CERTAIN there's something wrong with the dyno software there. This is my last run vs one this morning. While I do believe the previous 53HP figure, as it lines up with the rest of the data... There's no way in hell I just made an 83HP run. So I'm going to have to figure that one out. But what I think we CAN infer from this data is that I've got a 56% increase in power on this run vs last. Now some of that is that I sanded down my clutch shoes and bell and while they're still slipping they're (for the moment anyway) grabbing harder than they did before. So what does all this mean? It means I need to figure out the glitch in my systems so I can get some PROPER numbers!

Figured now that things are running well again it was time to figure out the lower side panel... It bugged me that the position of the turbo made it impossible to mount the side panel so it looked sorta unfinished on that side. Nothing a quick cut of the panel wouldn't solve! much better!!

It does look good 👍
Love the exposed turbo and the mechanical look.
