Ok I'm having a hard time. I see some higher quality scooters on marketplace often for good deals and just about go get them.
I keep defaulting to trying to find cheaper scooter made in China because the parts, upgrades, etc...are all so much easier to find and cheap.
And yes I know a more higher quality scooter prob won't break down much or at all, but if the "tinkering" is part of the whole experience you like...what do you do?
Anyone ever have this dilemma?

Tinkering on chinese scoots is a whole experience on itself. I really really hate working on them. It's just too much of a disposable product. Thats the whole idea from their manufacturing standpoint. Cheap cheap cheap everything, the mechanical parts and even the looks.
Japanese and European scoots are built to last way longer. Parts are designed so they can easily be taken apart, inspected, cleaned and little parts inside repaired or replaced.

Depends what you're after. Chinese scoots can be reliable, but I don't trust them out of the box. The components are still generally inferior to top tier stuff. With modern EFI and LC scoots, the gap is really big. There's no contest between a carbureted Chinese scoot and a fuel injected Yamaha/Piaggio/Vespa and so on if you are looking for a reliable ride that you don't have to mess with.
If you're a tuner/modifier... Chinese stuff may make sense. You'll still have inferior components unless you replace a lot of stuff, but they can do pretty well and the cost of mods for the 139QMB is generally much less than mods for the quality scoots. I've got a lot of enjoyment out of my Chinese scoots over the years, but I've also had a lot of headaches.
