Long story short, buddy found this bike laying on its side in the middle of the road near his house. He wanted me to fix it up for him so he could take it to Rando's Ride 2023 since most of us are going on scooters. Its basically a sister to my OG Elite, a red 94 S with only 500 more miles. We transported it to my garage and the more I dove in.....the worse it got. Oil was black. Gas was worse. More rust in the tank than fuel. Leaves, webs, dirt and moss in every nook and hole. Brakes gone, needed cables, clutch, kicker repaired, essentially a few hundred bucks worth of parts and few weeks worth of waiting. The longer it sat, the more it dawned on me that I wanted to actually save this scoot like I did with my old Taotao instead of just fixing it for him to ride then sell a month later. I wanted to see it get a good second chance. So, we talked, and he let me buy it. Tore it to the frame as soon as I got off work that day.
Heres the pipe. No flange mind you, just big washers on the studs pressing it on that had probably a whole tube of sealer around it. Bonus points for giant muffler clamp
Heres what was in the carb. Whole thing was trash. Fuel smelled like rotting fruit.
I regretted kicking it over to test spark. Pulled the motor apart to find the small end bearing was a little loose feeling. No wear inside but it was so shiny with old gas I didn't want to hold it close to my face long enough to look. Found trash in the bottom end. Sprayed it out upside down with wd40 after cleaning the cases off, then filled it with 2 stroke oil and spun the crank around with a drill and by hand to get all the junk free and lube the bottom end. No crank seal leaks either.
Pulled the frame into the driveway and spent some time cleaning it, wiping it down and scraping all the dirt and muck out of it. Not perfect but now I could keep it in the garage without feeling nasty
Threw on basically every part on I had from my og bike when it was a 50cc. Whole top end, pipe, some other panels, and an AF05 carb with an 84 jet. Air filter had also turned into sand basically so no filter element yet. Full stock cvt minus shims and the Jayaco variator. Redid the seat, put it on premix like my 70cc and threw her all together. Things a trooper! Does 38, starts easy and runs strong. Brake's and suspension are great. Wheels are my old AF05 wheels just painted black. New cables and brake hardware, and a 3.5 tire in back which feels nice but its too tall. Kills the snap of the 50. Its fun to have around, and I find myself wanting to ride it almost more than my 70. But then I suck on the 70. My buddy will still ride it at Rando's, just have to do a pipe before then. Gonna keep it 50cc cause they're so stupidly fun for some reason. Whole process took about 3 days, and it definitely helps you bond with the bike!
Heres before the seat cover
And heres how she sits now!
