All scooters seem to be equipped with polite little meep-meep horns. They just sound so happy when you press the button. Reading through the accidents and proof of safety gear thread, should we consider a louder and more authoritative sounding horn to be a part of one’s safety gear?

if you need to use the horn it,s probably to late to avoid what's going to happen, better to avoid a situation than rely on sound waves to help you. In the UK a horn is a legal requirement. Geoff

Scooter horns are only useful for warning pedestrians and bicyclists on the footpath you are riding on

You mean to prevent all the woman throwing themselves at you and to honk away oncoming traffic or deer suddenly crossing the road? Otherwise I wouldn't bother too much about a horn and focus more on your helmet, clothing and general spacial awareness while riding.

I've put louder horns on scoots. I rarely use them though. In all the years that I've rode scooters, I can't really think of many times that the horn made a difference for safety... but I like the idea that someone will hear it if I do want to use it. I think I could wear neon colors, hold the horn button down, rev the engine, wave my arms around, flash my lights; and some people still wouldn't notice me.

After my last big electric meltdown, 12 volt keyed power wire got pinched while riding home and got hot enough to melt the whole front harness, completely rewire front harness I left out the horn wires.
Now she wired correctly, no more single power keyed wire running everything, lights, starter, and keyed cdi all separate power and separate ground, running from fused power block, each fused independently. Separate ground wires to frame and ground block for the cdi, spark plug and the starter relay. Front control only has turn signal and brake light, starter on separate button mount on the inner leg panel, with running lights switch next to it.
Guess I could add a horn button, 🤷 🤪
