Got the gearbox apart yet? Once the nut and sprocket come off on some of those, you may find an axle that can work for a scoot. The 90cc ATV engine that went into my small frame scoot would have been OK, but I swapped gears from the original engine because the ATV was around 8.8:1 final drive ratio vs about 11:1 on the stock scoot. The mount is just removed and the pins/bolts for brake shoes can be installed.
None of this is of any use for your long case scoot, but throwing it out there in case the info is of use. I don't know what the eBay market is like now, but people used to sell gear sets for those for decent money. Actually, I just looked at completed listings for "Polaris 90 gears" and see the gearset with cover sold for $150, just a primary shaft for $70 and so on. Don't toss those.

Keep everything when you need that kick start spring or 6mm bolt it,s really nice to just pluck one from the bone yard even better if a mate needs a starter pinion you just happen to have spare Geof

It would be a load of fun to have a 125 or 150 that topped out at 35-40mph but was able to use all of the torque that the engine could produce. All of the gear sets I’ve seen on the scooter parts sites are for more top end.

All of the gear sets I’ve seen on the scooter parts sites are for more top end. My experience is mostly with 2Ts, but low speed gearing hasn't been as fun as it sounded to me so far. It may work out with a 4T though. There are some scoots that have around 13:1 gears stock and I was impressed when I installed a sport BBK, clutch springs and did some variator tuning that it could get the wheel light or even a little off of the ground taking off or with heavy throttle at very low speed. My Tritons with 10:1 gears wouldn't do that and top speed was quite similar. The 125-150 is probably in the same ballpark of power to a mild/sport 70 2T, so maybe. With more power, deeper gears disappointed me. I took a 70MPH scoot and turned it into a 60MPH scoot with a gear swap, expecting a wheelie monster. It felt a little stronger right as it took off and then it felt the same... aside from missing a lot of speed. I cruised slower so it wasn't revved so high. I switched back pretty much immediately.
