I seem to be having problem with my JCL. I bougt it about nine months ago and now I cant seem to go far on a full tank. I just filled the tank yesterday morning, went less than 10 miles and parked and when I crunk it up again, it was at half a tank. I was riding one day and I hit a deep pot hole. I may have damaged something. Can someone offer a bit of advice as far as what my problem may be? I would greatly appreciate it.

is there any issues other then poor mpg is this just off the gas gauge or by how much gas you are actualy putting in
when you parked it was it above 1/2 tank if so then i would start looking for a leak

Yeah, the bump might have caused the fuel tank float to act differently. I have seen the floats crack before so they get gas soaked inside and become less buoyant. They come either like this one with a gold retainer ring: Or like this one with 4 screws: Inside this part is foam. It cracks and the foam gets soaked with gas making the float less buoyant

If it's the float, I had a washer tighten up so it didn't move freely, easy fix, and I had one crack like Fox said, and completely soak and fall apart in the tank. If you are leeking fuel, check the drain plug comeing out of the bottom of your carborator, could be a screw at the end of a tube than hangs down, check that it's tight.

whoa! not styrofoam i hope It's sorta like that foam stuff they use in a fake plant pot to stick all the fake stuff into with a thin plastic shell.

Yup, and once the plastic cracked the foam soaked the gas up and swelled and broke the whole thing into pieces. I fished out 3 big chunks. Lucky it didn't gobber up the works.

It didn't melt, not like plastic cup styrofoam. It's more like what Fox said, like the green stuff at the bottom of a bouquet of flowers, only not green
