'I'm dealing with water in the engine. I'm hoping by letting the scooter idle for an hour or so I might boil the water out. When revving the engine I feel a lot of vibration in the accelerator handle. Can water cause this?

How much water are you guessing is in there? Water and oil don't mix very well. It will lose a lot of its lubrication properties. You also run the risk of having the engine hydrolock if it's in the combustion chamber. How did the water get in there?

Thanks for the note. I live in Connecticut. It's been a mild winter. No snow but nearly constant rain. I left the scooter out in the weather for several weeks. I ordered a work table and plan to start wrenching the motor once I get the scooter up on it. First step might be checking the float bowl. I imagine water got in by running down the accelerator cable.

Tried and failed to raise scooter with very old cotton rope. Went well when elevating a VW using rope and a ceiling joists. I'll try again once I find straps. kevino

Over in the builds section you will find my Hobson build,my oil emulsified and I assumed water had leaked in ,turns out that my short commute and not warming the engine up was the cause.

I lifted the scooter using rope then rolled the table under it. Then lowered the scooter and found the tires are too long to fit on the table.

The first photo shows the work table against the wall. It has rollers and two steel drawers. The wooden top seems too nice to mar with oil or dragging engine parts along it. And I found that my wife paid $400 for it. Now it's too nice and too expensive to use on engine repair. It's already got a long scratch from me sliding a metal bucket across the table top.

While your are futzing around with rope, winch and work table, you could have drained the oil(.7l-ish) and poured in a new oil change and gotten past the water thing. While sitting, vibration of the handlebars is not unusual. You might want to look at the rear tire/wheel and see if it is kind of bouncing around. If not balanced, spinning the rear tire up to speed(it will do it whether that is your aim or not) can cause the whole thing to shake. Most tires are not balanced... and your weight tends to damp the shake. Water down the throttle cable is not likely to go anywhere internal as the cable connects externally to the throttle shaft. It could seep through to the intake, but not likely when there's all that gravity and stuff that leads right past the throttle shaft. If water got inside, it would go the the combustion chamber, possibly seep past the rings(if you got a LOT of water) and into the sump. It would then fall to the bottom being denser than the oil. Drain, and first thing out would be the water.. then oil. You could put a box/?? under the scooter and drop the engine/CVT/rear wheel as an assembly. One long bolt for the suspension, throttle cable/gas/choke wire/starter wire/spark wire ... fuel line. done. with the center stand down, the engine/cvt will stand on its own. the scoot will not, needing something under the center where the engine mounts. I have used blocks, and maybe a 'milk carton' basket. Or put the cans back into a Budweiser carton, tape it up, and you have a block that will support the weight. Actuall, the aluminum bottles work better. tom

Thanks for the help. I had 30 years practice futzing around with air-cooled VW engines. I forgot I had a Black and Decker portable work station that held several dozen engines over the years. I think the weight limit is 450# but I'll keep straps on just for extra safety. Now I have to figure out how to reassemble it. It's been in the garage a couple years now.

More futzing around trying to remember how to turn the table back into a table. Now I'm ready to start on the scooter.

I lifted the scooter high enough to slide the BlackandDecker table under it. But while lowering the scooter it sorta crumbled the wood and was leaning dangerously so I pushed the table away. With the scooter on its stand I was able to start taking off plastic items. I'm making a list: Pad and pencil to record each step, Tape, cable ties, and assorted sheetmetal screws to replace the old ones. I plan to photogragh each step.

That's a good idea. Take plenty of pictures. Even ones you don't think you will need.
