I want to buy a couple Kymco scooters here in Europe where I’m currently living and bring them back to the States to register in Virginia.
Why? Because used scooters in good condition are cheap and plentiful here.
I’ve read the DMV website for Virginia and it seems like registering a scooter is much simpler than a car. Would I get pushback from the DMV if I bring in a model/year combination that Kymco USA didn’t import? For example, the Like 50 was imported in previous years but not after 2014, and there’s one here from 2017 that looks really good.
Do I understand correctly that as 49cc engines that no emissions paperwork is required for import?
Or will the SMV be content to let me just fill out the form for a lost title, show them a clean VIN, and register the thing? Will they even know/care that it came through Europe?
