Does anyone know if you have to tag and title a 49cc scoot in West Virginia? We are thinking of moving Princeton West Virginia the DMV site states this
"If your moped or scooter is over 49ccs, you must title and register it." if we move will I have to get a license to ride my scoot ?
thanks

you will be fine just dont put a bore kit on it and run 50mph through one of those little towns up there. I rode up to Charleston once in a buddies 92 LX Mustang that had a Vortec Supercharger and gutted CATS with big exhaust and every cop in town was on our ass until we left. lots of bored cops up there.
It was lowered 1.5 inches or so with stiff springs and low tires man it sure was fun through the mountains on that trip.

I could get a new license there can't get one here in Va proably not if your dl is suspended or revoked for any reason in one state its getting harder and harder to get a dl in a diffrent state the system they have been using for cdl holders has been being swaped over to all dl Who Must Be Licensed? If you live in West Virginia and want to drive a motor vehicle on public roads, you must have a West Virginia driver’s license, unless you are expressly exempt. You must carry your license with you when you drive.

I didn't look it up, but this comes up alot on any mc board, and I think jmkjr72 said the same . . . In most states you need a drivers lisence to operate a 50. A motorcycle endorsement- no. A lot of states are linked by some system that tracks DMV stuff in different states. Florida isn't. It's very easy to get a new lisence-I D there. :thumb:

you wont need plates but you will need a valid drivers license i could not find anything that says if you need a motorcycle endorsement for 50 cc or less
but also if you read thru the law it talks about haveing pedals to not need a plate and some areas have been getting more anal about scooter and moped laws

i had to read through this several times to get at what I think he wanted to know; did he need a tag and registration AND a driver's licence to operate his scooter in WV? We saw a lot of interest in small scooters here in Alaska as there came to be more and more "three time losers" on DWI who'd essentially lost their ability to get a driver's licence for life. That makes it really hard to make a living in a state with bad weather, lots of sprawl, and not much public transportation, so lots of guys were getting small scooters to get around and to get to work. Some guy put an end to all that when after losing his DL forever, he started taxiing his airplane down the road to the bar and liquor store and got caught doing so while drunk. When the Troopers and DA discovered that what he'd done didn't violate any laws on the books, they made some laws. Now you can get a DWI on anything that moves on a road or on water and you have to have a license to operate anything powered on a public road. I don't know WV law, but I suspect they, too, require a DL to operate most anything other than farm equipment on a public road but like most states don't require a motorcycle endorsement for less than 50cc. These days you can see the pathetic sight of mid-aged guys pedaling their bicycles to work on snow and ice-covered roads at twenty degrees below zero. That sight is enough to warn you not to drink and drive.
