New to me 2004 Kymco Super 9S liquid cooled! I still can't believe I picked it up for just a few hundred bucks. All original parts still present. No modifications done or attempted. No broken tabs. No missing screws. I bought it non-running as I do with pretty much all of my bikes , but in one Sunday morning, I was able to get it going. Typical fresh gas, carb clean, and replace the air filter. Oh and I stole a battery out of another bike. haha I already had the carb cleaner on hand, and I'm still trimming filters out of a sheet of Uni filter material that has paid for itself 5 times over at this point. There was a cross threaded bolt holding in the seat bucket, but fortunately I don't think they hammered it down. I was able to chase both the bolt and the threads and save them both. I must say, it's really well put together and thought out by the engineers. Working on the bike is intuitive. No weird hidden screws or weird tabs you can't see. The carb is easy to access. The petcock is easy to access. There's a cool little storage space in the floorboard that I think I'll use to carry tools and a spare spark plug. The disc brakes, front and rear, feel fantastic! The suspension on the bike feels good even under me at 230lbs. 45+mph on a stock 50cc is a treat. I disconnected the rev limiter on the cdi and replaced the stock 8.5 gram rollers with some 7 gram rollers. A 30 mile shakedown ride tells me I should have no issues with this thing. My original intent was to get it running and pass it on to a friend for about what I've got into it plus a little for my time, but this thing is in such great shape, I figure I'll hold onto it for awhile.

Wow! you are a very lucky guy. that thing is easily worth 2k. Put new tires on it (I suggest Michelin Power Pure's) and enjoy.

I may wear down these tires a bit first. That's a great purchase. Use it for a while. Have fun and move it on. 👍 Well...I do have a current need in the permanent stable that hasn't been filled. None of my other bikes are suited for riding 2up, at least as well suited for it as a 50cc scooter can be. I just imagined it'd be a Aprilia Scarabeo, Piaggio LT50, Kymco People etc big wheel bike. I do have other stuff to move on instead As with all of these machines, I can't help but start digging into what cylinders and pipes are possible. I think if I can't resist the urge to go 70cc, it may have to stay around the for the long run.

The good fortune is not lost on me! I may wear down these tires a bit first. I would strongly suggest replacing the tires since they are almost 20 years old at this point. I replaced all my Kymco tires from that time period and they all were hard as a rock. anyways, a nice tire makes the ride so much better. Up to you of course.

Great find! Such a good looking scooter especially in that color. Not a hack job is such a plus

That is a nice scooter,45mph is plenty for me and I would keep that scoot catch up on the service side and enjoy it.of note and I can,t see properly but that looks like an upgraded exhaust to me ,a silent pro maybe??.

Fitted a TWH torque driver that I have laying around from my Honda Elite project. Looks like dio zx rear pulley is an exact fit! Now straight grooves instead of the dreaded shift. Went ahead and ordered a Malossi Multivar for it as well. Needed to spend $150 to get free shipping, so I went ahead and ordered a Malossi sport cylinder as well That is a nice scooter,45mph is plenty for me and I would keep that scoot catch up on the service side and enjoy it.of note and I can,t see properly but that looks like an upgraded exhaust to me ,a silent pro maybe??. Geoff Pretty well caught up on general service stuff at the moment! It is the stock exhaust. Can't help but think of how much this might waken it up though:

We should be honest, we like shiny new parts. 😉

Way more spacious than prebug or bugeye Zumas are for riding 2 up

Malossi Multivar and Gates PL30504. It seems there are lots of belt lengths that are marketed for the S9. I found this one on RockAuto of all places for $35 shipped. It's a bit longer than the original!
OEM boss on the left is slightly longer than the Malossi boss on the right.
OEM variator
Malossi Multivar I still have a bit of tuning to do. With the long belt and the variator, I'm seeing a few mph increase in top speed. Small difference in acceleration. I may try the original Bando belt to see what it does, but with the long belt, I'm seeing a nice decrease in RPMs at top speed, increased top speed, and it's wiping all of the sharpie off of the drive face. I had the stock 8.8g weights mixed with 8g weights in the OEM variator. The Malossi came with 9g weights, but I am running 9g mixed with 10g to get the same RPM as before(~7000rpm per the likely inaccurate tachometer).

I like the Multivar. Had quite a few, it's my favourite budget replacement. Are you going to try the contra spring at all?

I've always been under the impression that Malossi's white spring is pretty soft and similar to stock, so I got lazy and didn't install it. Next time I have the cover off, I'll probably swap it in.
