getting some chatter on my ride home from work today. Sounds like it might be that bearing in the rear of the cvt. Let me know what you guys think.

Hmm. I cant figure out what that square piece goes to. Nothing broke off the inside of the cover did it? Did you check starter gear? If the bolts holding yhe gear get a little loose can cause a rattle.
Mine actually came completely loose once and rattled around the case. Scare the piss out of me.
Everything else looks okay. Belt doesn't seem to be showing any abuse. How loose was the cover? Was there a noticeable gap or it just wasnt tight?

Yeah Maybe was enough to just kind of rattle things a little bit. That piece of metal is perplexing. Doesn't look like anything off of the CVT or on the cases side. That's really weird. How's it riding now? Still issue or is it okay? Did you run it with the cover off just to see if anything's wobbling about?
The black material do you mean the belt dust on the case? That does happen. Careful if you blow it out to clean it, s*** goes everywhere. Yours doesn't look bad at all that's not a lot of dust.

No sound coming from cvt with the cover off. I cleaned up the bearing and the housing it sits in. Threw the cover back on and the sound seemed to go away. At least just from spinning the rear tire on the stand. But in the video the belt seems to really be bouncing around. Is that normal?

That seems very excessive. Even when idling its jumping about a lot.

Wooooow! That is some serious belt slap you got going on there. So the noise could be the belt hitting the top of the cover. How old is that belt? Might want to give it a measure just see if it's still within spec. If the problem is really just starting then the belt may have finally worn itself below spec width. The reason why I say this is it looks like it's really bouncing around when you start hitting higher speed. It could be that is the variators closing the belt might be a little thin so you're getting more wobble.
That's just a supposition though. Definitely give the belt a measure and see if narrower than it's supposed to be

uhh the belt is maybe 2 years old but probably less that 100 miles on it? i didn't ride it at all last year. i broke the belt in September or august 2021 and fixed it when i got back from my trip. then haven't ridden it till this year.

Ok so the sound came back today on my way to work. Maybe what im hearing is the belt slapping the cvt cover. Ill see if i can get it measured tonight after work. The belt isn't that old at all.

Of its not the belt, it could be the contra spring no longer keeping the belt under proper tension.

aeroxbud That's a good point. Could be the spring. That might explain the rubberband sort of feel described earlier.

In you last picture of your first series of pictures you can clearly see the variator is loose, the star washer is out of place and the broken piece came from the star washer. Crankshaft is likley trashed at this point.
