I'm helping my daughter pull her 2004 Vento triton R4 out of cobwebs and have a time removing the keyed gas cap. the key works but not sure if I need to push down on the cap and turn either clockwise or counter clockwise to remove. Nothing is working. Any ideas out there?

You should be able to turn the key fully and pull the gas cap straight up, do not twist! The key stays in until you push the cap back on straight in. The key will then be able to turn and be removed.

I believe part of the issue is the key travel isn't turning enough to release the pins inside the cap. the key travel is turning approx. 45 degrees not typically 90 degrees. also there is an arrow on the edge of the cap and also an arrow on the cover, should these be in alignment to allow the cap to pop up upon release? Thanks for your attention!

Thanks for your attention! I do not remember how far the key travels, I think it turns less than 90. Yes, the arrows should be aligned to install and remove cap. Try pressing down on the cap while turning the key, it will help the locking tabs to retract.
