Hello, I'm looking to buy my first scooter, and I saw a 1986 Yamaha Razz with 1768 miles for 1000$ and was wondering if A. this is a decent price and B. if it would be a good first scooter.

The age and the miles go against it for me. There are probably going to be things that need replacing. And even a Yamaha dealer won't have them. You will find it hard sourcing parts. It's been standing for nearly all its life. Means it's probably in great condition to look at. But everything rubber will need replacing it it hasn't already. Crank seals if okay now won't last long once it's used. They will have dried out over time. You would be better of with a more modern Zuma or vino which you can get parts for still. Unless you like the retro style and plan on working on it more than riding it.

If it were a Yamaha Riva Jog, then it would be a maybe - if it was always kept inside and was in mint condition. If it is a Riva Razz, then probably not.
But like aeroxbud said, you might want to plan on doing your own maintenance if you buy a vintage scooter.
Where you are located can greatly impact the market value of scooters though.

and B. - it would be a good first scooter. zippy 2 stroke that tops out around 28-30mph. fun and light.
just not so much if it needs work or hasn't been maintained.
