as you can see in the image below, is my current earth contact spot, is this a bad spot as I’ve been hearing that frame earths are bad and should be put on cylinder or engine case, like the starter motor, which I no longer use due to the Stage6 over range kit

Unless the engine is rubber mounted to the frame I would think the frame ground would be good. The connection looks to be clean, just make sure paint isn't interfering with the connection.

The engine must be grounded to the frame, the battery neg, and to the regulator. The connection from the engine to the frame must be very flexible and accommodate suspension movement, number 10AWG wire is usually sufficient but I sometimes use a number 8AWG. Prevent flexing at connections. The engine to frame ground carries the majority of starter current, some is carried by a stator ground in some scoots. The battery to frame ground also carries the starter current and should be #8-10AWG.

Instead of asking if it is ok, I think the best earth (ground, or negative battery connection) is a wire connecting All needed earth connections. Frankenmech is right about the starter earth. EveWhen connecting light bulbs and horn buttons should have a wire as the earth connection. Of course joining earth wires together is fine. Soldering is best, twisting wires together and crimping is next best. Waterproofing all connections to prevent corrosion is necessary. Connecting the engine to the earth common wire should be a very secure connection to bare metal, like a bolt on the stator. Bad earth connections are a Real pain to find sometimes, so take your time to do it right the first time and then Ride On! Apologies for my over caffenated comments.

What's to stop you using a smaller bolt and still bolting the earth from the starter to the engine. Where it usually fits?

I just grabbed an Allen bolt and put it where the starter would normally be, but I didn't put the starter on, just put the earth and allen in its place instead.
