I posted about carb heater tube on another thread and moving to another subject, I was trying to keep the RH stock (ish). Bike is a 2018 with only 76 miles, it is slow to return to idle so I started checking things, fuel replaced with regular none ethanol, oil removed and replaced in oil tank, gear oil replaced, waiting on jets just in case, have float bowl gasket.
Next subject area, I'm going to keep the carb heater tube, I pulled the exhaust to double check that restriction washer was removed and noticed oil residue on header pipe, one of the welds is not complete (within 6" of cylinder) so a slot one third the diameter of the pipe is present. After looking at it and knowing the challenges of welding an oil/carbon soaked seam with no access to the inside I decided to just replace the exhaust (arrives tomorrow) with the sport type.
Replacing the exhaust with a none emissions type requires removing the filtered can and tube, does anyone know if the exit tube from the case needs to have a one way filtered valve, one way rubber tube ?
I'm leaning to filtered exit tube as it appears to be cross ventilation/cooling for the variator and belt that doubles as an air pump for emissions, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

you are correct the air flow does act to cool the variator along with adding air to the exhaust to reduce emmisions .
When i switched exhausts i removed canister . the hose that runs from the cvt i kept connected on that end and I just zip tied the other end up under the seat .

Exhaust went somewhere but will now be here tomorrow, ordered jets for Kiehin PB got the wrong size (thread diameter) so new ones are on the way (88 and a 38), I filled the snorkel area and drilled closer to filter. Managed to get the shaved off air screw out (mixture screw) and put it in a safe place that I can't remember, looked for it as I needed to cut a screwdriver slot in it, gone. Just ordered a new one (with slot) so glad somebody makes them. Exhaust should be on tomorrow then wait for jets, as a side note the weight reduced by removing the original exhaust with emission components and center stand is 6.5 pounds, center stand is so easy to install for maintenance that I remove it. I forgot, also added a duckbill vent tube on CVT outlet.

that stock pipe is heavy. dont stress too much on the jets you may not even need to upjet the main .
I have that pipe on my wifes roughhouse it adds a few hundred rpm . The jetting i settled on was 82 and 38. I really only needed to richen up the mid range with the needle being non adjustable and pilot screw I just one upped the pilot .

The new exhaust came and is installed, original exhaust is 12lbs and the new one is 7.5lbs (half pound under listed weight), that's 4.5lbs I don't have to lose. Manufacturer calls for 90 main, as noted above I have an 88 on the way and a 38 pilot, if needed I can keep/reuse the stock factory 82 main.

Who out there is running the stock airbox, modified factory airbox, pod air filter and so on ?. Pods concern me with regard to road spray, water and dirt as it's so close to the rear tire. I'm leaning towards the stock airbox with snorkel closed off (very bad airflow) and drill the five now for show holes that are close to the filter.

The stock air box works best for daily riders and tuning . If you were building a racer and could set the carb perfect for every days weather than a pod can be superior If you get it wrong for max power you rebuild your engine the roughhouse air box works real well with snorkle removed for sport kit level and below 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/26558/stock-air-open-filter-discussion

Was just wondering what people were doing and what thought process they used for the choice they made, from time to time I see some really stupid (to me) mods on just about everything with an engine and a few that I've asked why state because it sounds cool/looks cool or my buddy did it to his, most destine to be yard art/junker .
I've not done a lot of tuning of 2 cycle engines, have done complete restorations 2021 did 7 Velosolex (5x2200,1x3800,1x4600), complete restoration of 1963 Puch DS-50R now in Austria, 1964 Honda Cub 50cc,Motobecane, Puch Maxi , all in Germany now. In 2018, Vespa 1960's VNB,VNA and a 1964 small frame 50cc, custom built 4 Harley's and an Enfield Bullet, all gone to new homes and some back to the original country it came from.
I see that some here have tested and put in the homework on some modifications done, I'm here to learn (even an old fart can pick up something new).

I have tried a few times to upload some picture over the past 12 hours or so, changed file sizes and format with no luck. Most of my pictures I can't find (on flash drive) the ones on PC I can't load.

Then pasting a link. I use Flickr, it's free for up to a 1000 pictures.
