Been gone for quite a few years but back now as I hunt for a new ride. Still in the same house but remodeling/upgrading with the intent to sell by 2028 and use the money to buy a small tract of land (5 acres or less) and build a tiny home (400-500 square ft) while living in a camper temporarily. All the cats I had back then have passed on but I still have critters. 10 adult cats, 3 3-month old kittens and a 2 1/2 yr old American Bully girl I am training for diabetic alert. Dxed diabetic Oct 2020. Left the self employment world and now work as a FT Family Dollar manager - needed those retirement benefits. Also have a 99 Ranger 4WD Supercab 4.0 that I am restoring. Currently rebuilding the engine.

Welcome back to the forum. What sort of scooter do you have in mind?

Currently trying to negotiate on a 2022 Honda Metropolitan. Something is broken off in the key switch after a theft attempt by a enraged female ex which is a big reason they are selling. Ex is able to push around a small scoot but not a large scoot so owner is upgrading. Some of the body panels don't clip together anymore either after she slammed it with a baseball bat. Underseat storage is gone along with that lock assembly. They found it in pieces all over the yard but the seat was not removed so it still closes down properly.
I know the owner personally and the scoot is currently at my house being hid from further damage. He is giving me first chance at buying it. No titles in NC for 50cc but I will have a bill of sale to take to get a tag and insurance, plus plan to paint it so it's unrecognizable if I do buy it.

I only live 1 mile from work which will be the primary use as I am currently restoring a 99 Ranger. I can use my son's car for shopping but I usually work until 9:30 pm and he has to be at work around 8:30 pm. Mostly I walk to work now but on thyroid meds which make me more suspectible to the heat so I need lots of breaks in shade, even over that short distance so it takes around an hr which is ridiculous to me. Don't mind the walk home at night, just can't tolerate the daytime heat.

Sounds like a scooter will be an ideal solution for you. Never underestimate an angry ex. Mine cost me hundreds of pounds is rear motorcycle tyres. Even when I gave her the house and virtually everything in it. And she was the one who cheated.

Thought I would update now that I've had my new ride a bit. Decided to bite the bullet and see if I could finance something new. Ended up buying a 2023 Navi at just over $2K with some added items like a helmet, etc. Payments under $100/month for 3 years.
I am apparently the first person to buy one around here that actually lives here. And since mine is visible when I'm at work, it's gotten a lot of attention. The local dealer sold every one they had within 2 weeks of me buying mine and they can't keep them in stock. I keep sending everyone to see the same sales agent.
Bike is fairly stock right now but in the month since I bought it I have added canvas saddlebags with a dry bag and a cover. I love the storage box. I can pack my full FroggToggs waders and jacket, the saddlebags when not in use, a small bag with flat bungee cords, flat net, cover when not in use, & my log book all in the box and still have a small bit of room. I estimate I average 225 lbs with a range of 200 lbs up to around 250 lbs after grocery shopping. Last time I averaged my mileage it was about 84.5 might.
Only a couple things I don't like. The bike has a foot lever for the rear brake but also a handlebar lever. I prefer the handlebar lever since it allows me to use both feet flat but the rear brake lever is short. I have found mods that are full size brake levers. For me the engine is a little underpowered. Max speed for me is 55 mph going downhill and with just me. Hoping to find a kit to give more power. Needs better color choices but I'm just going to get a couple cans of the color I want to paint my truck and that way bike and truck match. Seat doesn't have enough padding for long rides so I'm making a padded cover with duck cloth that I will add some extra waterproofing and UV protection. (Scotchguard Outdoor sun & water shield). Saddlebags are getting same treatment while the cover is just getting extra waterproofing. After I paint it, I will be adding decorative stenciling in a glow in the dark paint. And using the same paint on my helmet.
Overall, the Navi is a great ride and I am extremely happy with the choice I made in financing it.
