Got a stator puller and pulled stator and now can’t get nut back on. I think the first threads on shaft are mushroomed Ever so slightly. Any way to fix?

You might be able to clean them up with a small triangle file. If not get a die to run down the threads.

Triangle file with a LOT of patience. Start lower down on the threads, look and see where they are crunched, follow the original path of the still good thread using the edge of the file, and keep on going until you run out of jabbered-up threads. See if the nut will fit. Watch as it screws down the threads, and look for spots where it is binding(the leading edge of the thread on the ID of the nut). Concentrate on making the nut thread without binding. You can start at the outmost thread but must have something to target the file direction or you are erasing threads. Erasing is also a technique if you cannot follow the original thread direction. Just have to be careful and take your time. Oh. Work in bright light. Take your time. tom
