Hey all, your YouTube vids are great and that’s how I found your forum, loads of info, much appreciated! I bought an old ‘banged up’ 2000 Gilera runner 50 and I’ve stripped it completely and rebuilding it in my spare time, so far so good, but I’ve hit a wall and have searched high and low to try and find the info/guide for my predicament but can’t find much, so I thought I’d make a thread about it for future reference, might help others. Basically Im trying to fit a new steering lock block/spacer (I think it’s called) with new key barrel but I can’t seem to get the new steering lock block into the keyhole chassis (frame hole) it just doesn’t fit… I can’t remember how I removed it, I should’ve taken more pictures but I didn’t, I believe the block came out when I dropped the forks and maybe it can only be installed before the forks go in? Can anyone chime in? This is the steer lock spacer/block I’m trying to install.. www.pedparts.co.uk/product/1339/piaggio-ignition-steering-lock-column-spacer-block?ga4List=

It's a zip in the video, but since it's also piaggio product it might as well be the same.

It looks like you have to fit it from the back. Then the spring clip stops it falling out. I think that's why I'm the video he says not to remove the clip all the way. On the parts diagram all the runners have a steering lock tube located on the headset. I would try taking the front panel off. You should be able to get access to the lock then.

Thank you, I think I need to drop the forks to put the new barrel spacer (not the key barrel) in as the fork column gets in the way when I try and push it in through the back of the barrel, then put the forks back in and then finally the clip that retains it or maybe put the retainer clip in before putting the forks back in.. just wanted to see if anyone had experience on this that could possibly give me any tips or if I’m even on the right path..

Let us know how it goes. Good luck. It ended up being pretty simple. You need to drop the forks in order to slide the new barrel block through the back of the frame barrel, it slots right in and stops midway as the frame becomes more narrow towards the front. Make sure the block is in the correct orientation then fit the ignition switch to the back of the block which seats into the switch, then insert the locking clip, this part was all easy. The frontside, the actual key barrel, inserts through the front of the frame barrel, you need to be firm and push it right into the block we just installed, it needs to be really in there as a retaining clip needs to be inserted from above the frame barrel which locks the key barrel into position, if the key barrel isn’t seated enough, you’ll end up missing the locking groove of the key barrel and it’ll just fall out from the front! All in all, easy installation but the retaining clips can be a bit fiddly to get in place.

Glad you sorted it. Not too many runners left on the roads now.
