So a friend gave me this engine out of Dazon Raider 150 buggy. It’s a 157qmj but being in a 4 wheeler it had an external reverse contraption that appears and afterthought, not something designed into the engine from scratch. It’s a wierd planetary gear set that slid onto the output shaft and used some steel braces to affix it to where the drum brake parts normally would go. So my question is, does this output shaft appear longer than what a scooter would use? I’ve stripped it down and have the shaft out and measurements if anyone knows. It does have the right 19 splines for a scooter wheel. Also, and related, is there an easy way to convert to disc rear brake on these scooters. What the scoop on rear wheel interchangeablility in general? Lastly, I forgot to measure the overall length of the case, can anyone tell by looking is this a long case? Thanks in advance!

bad pic, sorry, but there’s the planetary reverse sprocket assembly that slipped over the output shaft

Your engine appears to be short case. If it is, it will only take 10 inch wheels. Not sure of disc conversion for 10 inch wheels. (would work for 13 inch wheels though.)

I'm trying to post a pic of my tao tao 150 spare engine that came off my scooter. btw, your final shaft sticks out much farther. I'm guessing one and one half to two inches.

Thanks classacted and storm! That pic of the driveshaft was exactly what I needed, I figured mine was too long. I got on a parts sellers site and found good pics of short and long cases and compared them and mine are definitely the short cases. So now i just need to know if all the guts from my short case engine will fit in a long case? If so I think it’d be more cost effective to just buy a set of long crankcases, the correct output shaft, and the correct brake parts I need versus buying a complete engine. But then again it might only $50-100 cheaper and I have an entire engine worth of spares the other way. Humm, I’ll have to think about that. There’s also deciding if I’m gonna get the “bigger” B cases with their bigger cylinder stud bolt pattern.
Still needing some info on rear wheel swaps, like are for the most part all gy6 rear wheels interchangeable so long as they are like for like as far as brakes (drum or disk). And of course the diameter fitting short or long case. I need a 12” rear wheel, preferably disc brake, because this 2015 kymco super 8 50r has a 12” up front and someone swapped its original engine for 139qmb and 10” wheel from a 2008 scooter based on the black and silver metallic tag riveted to fan shroud. I haven’t really seen any online shops selling any aftermarket wheels but I haven’t looked at every store obviously. Is there a particular scooter that came with the 150 with 12” wheel and disc rear brake that people swap everything from? Any info on this stuff would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks!

I bought a complete engine off ebay, the cheapest I could find and I waited for the right time. it has 1500 miles of use on it now and is going strong. you get so much for so little money and it comes already assembled so there is alot you can verify immediately. it may appear to have engine and gear oil when you get it, but don't let that fool you. when I received mine it had only about one quarter cup of each type of oil.
