Ok so after seeing the power of the built two strokes and realizing how fun they’d be, I’m wanting to buy one. I know where a Eton Beamer 3 is, but im old enough not to jump on the first thing I run across, even though the kid in me makes that hard sometimes. So if you were shopping around for a 2t scooter to make into a killer, what would be like the best one to start with? Would prefer water cooled from the factory as that’d make it easier down the line I’d imagine. Something the sold in the US of course, not trying to import something. And if they are all pretty similar give me a short list of top 5 or whatever.
haven’t given up on 4 strokes yet either. They are small after all, got room for 2 or 3 scoots.
On a different note, what do you think about 2023 Piaggio liberty in 50 and/or 150. Like what engines are in those, 3 valve is all I seen advertised. There’s a dealership around me with both. Are the 50s restricted to 35mph in the states and easily de-restricted. Only considering the 50 cause no need to license and insure it. But if slow just like the Chinese 50s then I’d go with the 150. Just want something reliable to ride around everyday while building my little monsters! 🙏🏼 thanks

Aprilia SR with the piaggio motor is in my opinion the best you can get. Piaggio motors are built better than the minarelli ones, plus Aprilia SR's are big comfortable scoots. There is a very very big aftermarket availble for them too, engine- and chassis wise. 2nd best would be a Zuma. For the rest all the good stuff is not available in the US😅

The only new scoots in the states that are 2 stroke are the genuine buddy and genuine roughhouse
If you are looking for a older scooter the 2002 -2011 Yamaha Zuma is a great choice
Both of theses you can find parts from a actual dealer network along with aftermarket suppliers
I have built a couple of Elton beamers the factory parts are hard to come by there is not a dealer network after market suppliers are the same as the genuine and Yamaha
All 3 of these scoots run a version of minarelli 2 stroke engine

Is that the one with the DITECH two-stroke engine? If it's got the Moto Morini engine, it's not great for tuning. If it's got the carb and Piaggio lump, it would be good.

Oh wait, yes now you mention it! It doesn't have a kickstarter so it's a Di-Tech. You really don't want that one unless you want to keep it stock and buy a Di-Tech computer.

Ok, so can you break them down a little for me, as you guys prolly know them inside out. Like what years are what engine, carb or fi, etc? Which ones can be tuned and have all the aftermarket parts available? This guy has like 3 of em for sale. I know one ad did mention ditech. Another ad was an older body style and it already had built motor. I’m gonna try and find the ads again. Shit he might be a member here!

So he has a 2007 red black, a 2009 red black almost the same scheme, and a 99 with a malossi 70 kit and all the usual stuff like reeds, varioator, clutch, etc That 99 he’s asking $2200. So as far as reliability goes for these with that stuff? Once you build them is it just piston/head/cylinder that go (melt or otherwise fail)? So even if it’s half tired a new top end could have it right back. Then it’s already got good parts too.
Here’s the ad
I have a aprilia sr50 scooter/moped. It has a lot of cool goodies. It’s a minarelli motor scooter that is liquid cooled. It has rear and front disc brakes. The motor is very similar to a Yamaha zuma motor or Yamaha jog motor. It has 70cc malossi bbk, cp21 carb, stage 6 intake and reedcage with carbon fiber reeds. Yasuni r exhaust, malossi fly clutch, stage 6 variator, malossi belt. It is quick goes 60+mph and will ride wheelies. Do not need to sell but would like the extra money

You can't go wrong with the later SR50 with the Piaggio engine. I have the Fuel Injected one and it runs smooth.

What about kymco super 9 LC? I like that super 8 chassis wise, ride smooth and sits up good riding position. Night and day difference than the vip Tao Tao I rode around for a couple days (shop scooter got left up there years ago). The Tao Tao would start going into mini tank slapper if you took hands off bars at about any speed. Tried adjust neck bearings tighter/looser didn’t change. The super 8 is goes straight no hands and it corners nicely, stops nice just wish it had rear disk. That’s for sure something I want outta whatever I get rear disc brake!

Not familiar with the Kymco Super 9. Never ridden one nor worked on one. To me they're a complete blind spot. They weren't too popular around here with strong competition from all the Aerox's, Gilera Runners, Aprilia's, Malaguti's, Beta's, Suzuki's already riding around. But looking at it (quite a large scooter in the 50cc class, watercooled engine, rear disk brake), it should be a pretty good choice. I'd buy it!

I was going to add to the endorsement of an '02-11 Zuma. For my use I doubt I could have done better. Great bike, hard to beat. However, as the owner of a '16 Tuono I can not discount Aprilia. That looks to be a great deal.
