My scoot has no kick start so what happens if the battery is run down?? So a jump start with leads seems the only option to my thinking,but can you push start with a CVT or maybe roll down a hill,just in case some idiot leaves the headlight on. Geoff

Geoff Ever owned a car or a motorcycle? They don't have kickstarters anymore these days and seem to be doing fine without them. Aprilia di-techs don't have em either. You don't need it really unless the scoot is badly maintained or it is a chinese specimen. You can't push start cvt'd motors. But you can pull start though and there are pullstarters available.

Geoff I was wondering the same thing a while back. I tested it on my Vino 125 by coasting engine off down a big hill. Got up to 35… no dice. You spin the drum of the clutch but the shoes don’t move so they never engage to pull the motor.

Yeah, clutch flyweights are on the engine side of the clutch so a 100 mph won't get it spinning
The snowmobile world actually included a emergency pull start strap in the tool kit. It was a 1" nylon strap about 3' long. Idea was to wrap it around the CVT drive pulley and give er a yank, being careful to give a long pull so it didn't get wrapped up in the now spinning pulley. There was no hook or clamp, you just wrapped a round and used the strap to cinch down on itself. I tried it out a few times and found it to work ok on a warm engine, but more of a challenge on a cold (winter cold) engine.
On these rigs I'm not sure if something like that would be easier on the drive pulley or on the flywheel? Maybe even on the driven pulley. Remembering that parts would have to be installed back onto a running engine

You can jump start from a car with a relatively small set of jumper wires. Many scoots power the headlight directly from the engine so you can't leave the headlights on. Many scoots will discharge the battery if they sit for several weeks (days on some) so keep the battery on a trickle charger.

Is there another model of scooter that uses the same engine that comes with a kick starter? You might be able to just swap some parts around if you really want a kick starter.
This is an issue I ran into one time on my C3, I pulled over in the middle of nowhere to check my GPS, I couldn't get it to start back up, my battery had gone completely dead, apparently I had been running on just the stator after it initially started at home, the battery had less than 1 volt. The problem in my case, even with the kick starter, it wouldn't start. The C3 is fuel injected, so you need enough juice to at least spin up the fuel pump and fire the injector in order for the kick starter to do any good. Now on longer trips, I carry around a Milwaukee M12 battery with an adapter to plug into my charger pigtail, I can let that run the electronics for a moment and use the kick starter to actually start it. I want to experiment one of these days with some larger wires to see if one of those M12 batteries has enough juice to actually crank the engine.

Thanks for the replies, you have confirmed what I thought,when the time comes I will just replace the battery,I do like the power pack that fits in a glovebox,I have extended the litany to spectacles testicles wallet and KEYs to avoid dementia prone problems.

I agree with Paul Geoff a power pack is fairly small and a godsend when leaving work at the end of the day with a flat battery.

My buddy keeps a 18 volt dewalt battery and a couple wires under the seat. His battery has been dead all year. works great

I just use a SLA battery like the ones used in computer UPS units, emergency lights, etc. They put out a huge starting current, much more than the standard scoot lead acid batteries. I also have a 12V cigarette lighter style power port wired into the battery with a 10A breaker that can be used with an adapter to charge phones, a battery and charging voltage display, etc. I can also just plug in my battery charger at night through the port. I also use it to run the fuel pump for my 5 gallon gas can to fill my scoot tank. I also carry a small set of light jumper cables to get a jump from a car if required. Keeping the regulator in good shape is the best thing. The battery and charging system plug-in display from Harbor freight works real good to monitor the charging system and avoiding a flat battery. I don't know if they are available anymore but you can get plain battery voltage displays to plug into a power port.
