I bought a "universal parts starter drive gear" from partsforscooters.com, but it seems maybe a little too big to fit with the starter gear (the larger one that goes behind the variator). The teeth seem to mesh just fine, but I think the diameter of the drive gear itself is too wide. Do yall have any advice on how to deal with this?

Compare the old with the new it,s either right or wrong there,s no wriggle room.

geoffh Don't have the old. I'll probably buy one from a different site.

Have you got the bearing that goes inside the drive gear? That takes up the space.

aeroxbud As far as I can tell, there is no bearing that belongs there. There's a small cylindrical piece that sticks out from the back of the transmission case and the drive gear slides onto that pretty cleanly. And in the case that I am missing a bearing, wouldn't that only exacerbate my problem?

Oh I'm talking about what's #5 on that diagram. I have the #1/2/3 that I believe are stock, but the #5 I just bought does not agree with the #1. (I try to use the "official" names for these parts when I post, but I don't think it does me any good when they all sound like they could be referring to the same exact thing)

Would it be worth buying the starter clutch assembly? That's $40, but should match up with the gear you purchased.

That looks like it. It's different to the one you have already.

aeroxbud You think I could get away with buying the two pieces without including the one with the four holes in it and save myself $20? Or should I be safe and get the whole thing?

This one? www.partsforscooters.com/161-44Your one way clutch should fit to it. And it's different to the one you have that doesn't mesh. So I would give it a go.

aeroxbud Sorry, #4 on the diagram is the one that I'd like to avoid purchasing. They don't appear to sell it individually, otherwise I'd link to its particular page for clarity. So I would only buy the part you linked above as well as the needle bearing (#1 and #2). But if there's a chance that my #4 doesn't fit with the new #1 and #2, I'd just be safe and buy all three together via the starter clutch assembly.
