Those were both excellent write up. Thank you for pointing me in that direction. I will definitely make a new thread for the build once it gets going.
Not that I'm planning on it, but is there any sort of significant advantage to switching to a water cooled cylinder and going that route? I just saw the parts listed online and was curious about it.

There is a significant advantage to running a water cooler engine. The temperature is much tighter controlled. Allowing for finer tolerance of parts. Which equals more power and longer engine life. The fan on an air cooled scooter takes one horsepower just to keep the engine cool. When you don't have a lot of power, that's a lot. The downside is more complexity, and expense. Plus finding somewhere to mount the radiator can be tricky.

Are any of these options going to work for my vino? The first set I ordered didn't fit, even though I was reassured it would. Y'all seem like you know what you're talking about. Not planning to install until after I get the bbk and exhaust with carb tune done.

I googled the part number and found one on eBay I'll try to order in the next week or two.

grab a spare gasket for the transmission they often come apart in pieces.
When you install the new gasket a very light coat of grease on both sides of gasket will keep it from tearing if you ever crack the tranny again.
Take pictures of your gear install before during a nd after and add it to your build thread to help out the next guy

Thats the gears I have in my axis. They are super super tall. There are more combinations possible though: OEM primary gears 13/48 + OEM secondary gears 12/36 = 11,07 Malossi primary 15/41 + OEM secondary = 8,20 OEM primary 13/48 + Polini secondary 17/40 = 8,76 <- this combo is what I have, only mine are from Malossi.Malossi primary 15/41 + Polini secondary 17/40 = 6,41

Which ones are primary, which ones are secondary? And are you saying that one of those sets pictured is what you're using on your vino? Zino, when I get there I will remember to do that. Exhaust came in today, next is to order jets and I'll do the top end first. After that is variator/clutch. I might just leave the clutch stock for now unless you think it's going to be an absolute night and day. I took it apart once(which is how I found out I got the wrong parts)and got it back together okay, but I used some permetex motoseal. It's holding up well. In the event that I do change out gears, I'll definitely get a gasket.

I run the stock vino clutch and bell just with stiffer clutch springs .
First law of scooter tuning Go slow Change one part out a time and run it for a few tanks of gas so you can feel the changes That way if something doesnt feel right you can retrace your steps .
First swap on the pipe just remember to derestrict the pipe , In the head of the pipe there is a restriction that you can dremel out or rock it out with a screw driver so you go from a dime sized hole to a quarter sized hole .
A slight up jet on the main is all that pipe needs if you are sealed up well . To verify this after you have the exhaust bolted up right start it let it idle and take a wet rag and plug the exhaust if it kills quick you are selaed up tight if it keeps running you have an air leak .
Tune the carb start a couple jets bigger 10 % will be more than enough . It may run kinda crappy at that size . You will work your way down to the main jet that runs the best . If you have a gps app on your phone .
After the scooter is well warmed up Pick a stretch of road at least a 1/2 mile long and make wide open high speed runs . Going progressively smaller on jets and track top speed . Take the fastest jet if 2 are close take the bigger(richer Jet) Then work the needle I just take the most responsive dirt bike revvy setting from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle if 2 notches feel the same I take the richest one .
I fine tune the idle last I want a revvy responsive 0-1/4 throttle without it being a lean or hanging idle . I want a idle setting that when I Blip the throttle 3 things could happen The idle speed stays above normal speed this is lean and in Need to turn the idle mixture in a 1/4 to 1/2 turn or more . It could go back to regular idle speed almost immediately this is ideal . It could drop below and then clean up and rise back up to regular idle speed (This is on the rich side racers run like this to help keep the cylinder cool when they come off wide open runs)
With the stock carb you may have to settle for being too rich
the silent pro pipe responds well to stock transmission settings . So do the variator next . When you get the variator find weights that make it feel just as spunky as stock transmission or better .
If you do it this order you will have learned how to adjust the carb on the stock cylinder better to make a tuning mistake on that one Than on the Athena .
You will have learned how to tune a transmission to be better than stock .
You really should grab a temp gauge to protect your cylinder trail tech makes a great one

Noted. I'll order jets, install exhaust(derestricted) and tune carb. Variator next, then cylinder. I saw on your build thread you had a temp gauge and I've been leaning towards ordering one just to err on the safe side.

Jets ordered as well. I went ahead and got the same set that Zino ordered. It's been cooling down outside and I've noticed I'm getting less performance so I'm probably running a bit lean at night. As it continues getting colder I might have to go with the 75 or even 77 so even though they weren't used in the 50mph built that was linked, they be necessary in the end. Once everything gets in and I start putting things together I'll start a thread on the build section to help out.
I really appreciate all the help that everyone has given me here.

Oh also, funny story.
Had a customer last night at work tell me he swapped the exhaust and got 70mph on his otherwise stock vino. Something smells fishy here.
