Hi
I know that the auto choke need about 6 min to close after engine start, but after shut off , will it take a long time to re-open ?

It has wax inside. So should cool down fairly quickly.

I played with one on the bench. It retracted slowly but almost instantly.
Its a characteristic of the thing. It also has essentially no connection to the heat of the engine. So a warm engine starts with full choke same as a cold engine.

They are the spawn of the devil. After having problems with flooding engines on warm starts so I eliminated mine. blocking them off is easier on some carbs than others. I just got used to a cold engine start and used a minute or so to put on my helmet and gloves while the engine warmed up. Some here have devised ways to control the enrichment circuit like a mechanical choke.

The Dellorto carbs have a kit to change to a manual choke if you want.

The Dellorto carbs have a kit to change to a manual choke if you want. have one. cant even use it. way too rich even with a 30 idle jet so impossible to use choke. but i think he talk about diaphragm carb not phbg since ite 4t section:)

I have seen gizmos advertised that indicate they will allow manual operation of the byvalve(choke/enrichment gizmo). When they work they allow the engine to readily start from cold, and have a good fast idle for a few minutes. The problem seems to be the 'well' the fuel pickup used is dipped into. It is fed from a tiny hole that you cannot run a straight pin into. Readily clogged and therefor useless unless the fuel is absolutely clean and fresh... When they don't work, it becomes difficult to start a cold engine in my experience. A few cycles of the throttle to operate the accelerator pump (if equipped...newer use something else) should add some fuel to make the mix richer and easier to start when cold. tom
