If returning it or getting it to someone is out, then your in the nothing to lose territory.
But those things do have some energy and fire risks, so it might not be worth it to gerry rig.
Without any indepth knowledge and no test equipment, your down to a couple meter test points, but mostly visual inspection.
I would get a good magnifying glass and look at everything.
Check every electrical connector at each pin (connection and crimp), battery terminals and wire ends.
Circuit boards:
Look close at each connection, including each of the IC legs.
I see mounting screws on the skinny dash board, but not on the square board.
Is that loose and bouncing around?
If a loose board takes a beating, it can flex and crack a conductor trace, which is the same as a broken wire.
I only see the red and black going to the dash board?
With all the components on that board, the red must be some sort of data buss and input/output power, assuming that is includes a switch?
If nothing else, maybe buy a exact replica and do some comparison testing?
