Hi all,
I bought a snazzy aftermarket carbon fibre gas cap for my 2002 Aerox.
My Question is : Can I remove the lock cylinder from my stock cap and replace it into the new carbon one?
I would really rather just have the 1 key that does everything like they came from factory rather than having a second key just to open the gas at the fuel station.
They usually have a little spring loaded catch you push in with a wire when you turn the key or something similar right?
I appreciate any help and suggestions
Tom.

Have you tried using the aftermarket cap? Just because the cap 'fits' does not mean it will actually work. Some gas tanks vent through the cap and some have a vent in the gas tank. Not having a vent for the tank will cause fuel starvation.
You could try to remove the cylinders from both caps if possible without damaging them if you know how. Then compare the cylinders. But it is extremely doubtful they would be the same. Chances are you would damage something in both caps ruining them. Taking them both to a locksmith shop may be your best choice especially as it sounds like you don't know how to work on locks. The shop may look at them and tell you if they can do it. Otherwise just get used to carrying that second key to fit your snazzy aftermarket carbon fibre gas cap.

I've never taken one out of a gas cap and don't know much about locks. I would probably take it to a locksmith and see what they said and if it is worth the estimated cost to have 1 key.
Other thought is; could you return the cap for a full carbon cap/lock set that uses 1 key (if available)?
If you do find a way to swap it, keep us updated.

I worked out how to do it. As pictured there is the rollpin sitting on top of the red plastic spring retainer. You push the pin out (I had the grind down the end of the channel because there was a tab blocking the pin coming out. Push the pin out (you may need to use a fine set of pliers or a small pin punch) and the top retainer and the spring should come out. There was also a smaller rollpin holding the lock cylinder in, but the original cap didnt have this. press it out and you should be able to remove the lower part of the gascap retainer and the lock cylinder should push out from the bottom (keep the key in before doing so, so as the lock tumblers are retained - you don't want to lose these!) Swap over the lock cylinder (you have to keep the key in also, and look at the grooves inside the gascap, the exposed tumblers need to line up with these) when you have inserted the cylinder - withdraw the key and give the cylinder a slight jiggle, and you should hear the tumblers clicking into place. Now reverse the directions and push the retainer down to reinstall the pin, easier said than done!
