Need help, getting plenty of spark and fuel just replaced coil, plug, stator, cdi, rectifierand variator clutch. It's turning over great and firing like crazy practically running by the starter but will never catch. It's starting really hard, takes some time usually. And when it does start, it's by the kick starter. I used the ignition to get the gas flowing and get it firing and then I let off the button and hit the kickstarter a few times and it usually starts. I'm completely puzzled anybody got any ideas. I definitely set the valves twice thinking maybe that was it. I'm afraid it might be the compression maybe the rings are bad or something I don't know lost in Indiana man somebody give me some help here

Have you tried cleaning the carb? Checked the auto choke is working correctly?

If you have a DC ignition, it could be that your starter is running the battery down while it spins and supplying inadequate voltage to the ignition. Put a voltmeter on the battery and watch while running the starter. Going down into the 10 volts DC and bouncing back up when starter button is released is normal. If the battery drops below 10 vdc, then you got problems: Charge the battery Replace the battery Charge the replacement battery Trouble shoot for a bad onboard charging system

From what I have gained around here, when checking compression, a better(higher) reading is reached by kick starting. You may be just on the edge of developing a good spark when using the electric start, making it more difficult to fire. You do need a good battery, good un-corroded cables/terminals, tight terminals, and a good starter/Bendix for it to work correctly and start. One other thing is the carb must have a functional byvalve(choke dealy) that provides a richer mixture when cold. If you get a good FAST idle upon startup, which lasts ~1-2 minutes or so, the byvalve is working. If not, check that the chamber used for the enriched start mixture has an open tiny hole to the rest of the float bowl. The byvalve has a brass pickup tube that dips into the chamber for fuel, and if the tiny hole is closed, it won't work. If the starter is old, you may take it apart and clean the bushings armature turns in as they could be gummed by deteriorating grease. The copper colored part where the brushes ride should also be clean, and clear of grease or oil. If dirty, the current will not flow as well as desired causing slow rotation. Be sure to keep the parts clocked or the motor will run in reverse.... How would I know?// /?? // ? Ha. tom
