I have a 2010 minarelli vertical 50cc scoot with the following: 70cc Naraku piston+rings. A GOOD but off-hand expansion chamber pipe. A nice nibbi 22mm carb . Polished intake w/carbon fiber reeds.. when stock this bike would keep up with 4t 150s to about 44mph but felt gearing limited.. so I put all this on and when it hit 42 it felt like a turbo kicked in and 55 or so on a slight decline and still pulling. This was with a generic 70 cc kit and eventually a ring bit the dust. Replacing the eBay piston with Naraku.. so if the bike arbitrarily hits 55mph with a mid sized body.. (2010 jonway 50 2 stroke,12 inch tires) can I expect even more with naraku? And any guess what hp it might be? It has a 100 jet in it and soft siezed a few times after build when I got close to 60 and let off the gas.. my first 2 stroke so I wasn't aware engine braking is a nono.. any advice on a rear end gear change to make it not scream quite so loud at high rpm ? Any comments appreciated. Pjoe

It's hard to know without proper knowledge of the pipe and kit. Some generic 70cc kits may less power than a stock Yamaha cylinder. It's the same with expansion chamber exhausts. Some look good but the downside is they are all wrong to have any performance gains. There is a reason polini, Yasuni and Leo Vince ect have all spent vast amounts on R&D over the years. If it felt like a turbo had kicked in at over 40mph. It would suggest you have a very high revs pipe with a narrow power band. It doesn't help the standard Speedo can be very optimistic. Get a GPS speed app to get a correct idea of the speed. There are plenty of good performance parts available for the vertical Minarelli engine.

Thank you for your input. I did GPS it and it was a hair under 55 so I fudged it up to 55...now I'm gonna ask a bit of a harder question. So the real Zuma seems to come with a 13/44t secondary and somewhere I've read that the clones have something lesser like a 13/52. If that is true, IF... would i not gain that top end power band I'm looking for (maybe 65 mph, but cruising speed about 45 without running 5 figure rpms.. would that not get me a 15-20% upgear? Another question.. I have 120 70/12 tires... is there a taller TIRE I could buy to do the same thing? (I'm certain the power is over 10, maybe 12 hp high up) any help yall can give e is appreciated. I'm on a blog and budget trying to get ribeye flavor i know...

You are not going to have the power to hit a true 65mph. You would need quite a powerful kit and exhaust to pull gearing for that speed. To get another ten mph you would probably need about double the horse power. I spent over £800 to get that sort of speed fourteen years ago. Would be a lot more expensive now.
