..i get this email. ones like this make what i do worthwhile.
This fellow lives literally just a short walk up the street. He bought a 150cc Ruckus clone and assembled it himself. He showed up down here after 500 miles of riding with a toasted battery and nothing electrical on the dash working at all. (problem was the wires on the connector to all the dash lights and fuel gauge were pulled too tight from a silly ziptie procedure and the connector came unhooked) and the battery was just junk.
Dear Jason,
.....I try to check this e-mail account, but sometimes I don't check it for a while. I just wanted to explain my decision. I thought buying a Honda scooter that could go 55 miles an hour would save me gas money in the long run. So far I have spent a lot of money ($1.2 thousand) and have only gone 375 miles (600 kilometers. I hope my math is correct).
....The web site where I bought the bike said I should change the oil immediately. You recommended changing after 300 miles. The owner's manual says 1000 miles. I think now that I (and the owner's manual) were wrong and you were right. I charged the battery pack and tried to crank the scooter. Nope, won't start. I suspect the cheap Chinese oil is all gummed up, and inhibiting the starting process. Maybe changing the oil would make it run, maybe the problem is deeper than just the oil.
....Honda's are supposed to be high quality products. I thought I was getting a Honda, but instead I made a huge mistake and got a cheap Chinese scooter. You have experience with these scooters, so maybe you can fix it to the point where I will get years of service from the scooter. So far, this scooter has been a huge expense. You are the only bright spot in my experience so far. You have been professional, courteous, understanding, and you live nearby. My big fear is that I will keep sinking money into a product that will not last much longer. You have seen a lot more Chinese scooters than I have, is my fear correct?
.....Sincerely,
....-Long Pham
All he needs is a good 90cca battery, valve adj, oil and gearlube change. He doesnt want to do any of it because he fears it will just be something else tomorrow. I advised him to go ahead and let me do the above because that bike has the most power of any stock 150 i have ever seen! if you gun it from a dead stop it will bring the front end up a few inches and tops out at over 60 mph.
It feels good to get some praise from time to time.
