hello tonight i bought a c3 the owner said it has a bad headgasket he rode it for 2 years and never changed the oil till he said it felt like it got slow
he showed me the old oil and it was grey didnt look milky and thick but was deff grey could that been from not doing a oil change there was nothing shiny in the oil he showed me no flakes.
as for it getting slow i rode it around the block quick and it almost feels like the belt is sleeping.
is there anywhere that the coolant could be mixing with the oil besides the point of the headgasket? thank you

I have seen 'gray' oil that was due to the oil being the original supplied when shipped... Just 'different' oil, and then again from aluminum being slowly worn away and accumulating as gray matter in the lube. Can't say if it is a bad thing or just normal, but failure to change the oil can cause wear if there is anything dissolved or floating in the oil to turn it into a grinding or polishing compound. Where is the coolant pump? if attached to the crank/cam shaft, does it have a seal to keep fluid from migrating through the seal to the crankcase? Or is it sealed, separate with a sprocked and chain drive so any seal failure would dump coolant on the ground? If the former it could leak into the crankcase. The coolant flow could be cylinder head only, or include the cylinder itself. Either way, the head gasket is a possible source of leakage, but the base gasket not so likely. You would have to look at the coolant flow to know if it passed from the bottom of the cylinder to a pickup or to the radiator... Check the coolant flow following the hosed, pump, radiator(carb?) to visualize the flow path and you should know. Do you use coolant or see any spots of coolant on the block... ground? hoses? fittings? Make sure to us a good 50/50 mix (or their spec). tom
